Entourage: Manic Monday

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Apr 23rd 2007 8:13AM

Carla Gugino as Amanda on 'Entourage.'

(S03E15) "I'd buy diseased fish from her." - Drama
I second that, not just because Amanda is smoking hot, but because this is the Entourage I remember. This was an extremely solid episode and quite possibly the best one we've gotten from season three. The only one I can recall liking as much was "Vegas Baby, Vegas," and that one was good partly due to it not having any real ties to the rest of the season. It sat by itself. This episode sticks right to the story line we've been running with and that makes it all that much better in my book.

What we got here was something Entourage hasn't really explored before. It was almost some like sort of masked social experiment - clients and the relationships they have with their agents from two different perspectives.

Now we knew what was going on with Ari. His life was turned upside down when Vince fired him and as a result, he lost his edge. He became soft, accommodating, and much nicer than we're used to. Well, forget all that. Ari is back. The scene where he finally fired Rob (someone that Ari brought with him from Terence's) was hilarious. The thing is that I didn't feel bad for Rob at all. He clearly wasn't pulling his weight at Miller/Gold. Prior to that, the entire "don't cry... I can't" scene was priceless. Eye patches!

To see Ari break-down (a screen-saver of pictures actually made him tear up) and then bounce back was great to watch though. I just hope it keeps up and we continue to see him on the war path because that's when this guy is at his funniest.

Moving on to Amanda, and the large majority of the episode, we had a completely different kind of client/agent development. The one thing that Drama has sort of been hinting at all along finally came out. It's hard to say "no" to hot women and that became crystal clear when Vince and E finally admitted to each other that neither liked The Glimpses of the Moon. They just said they did because Amanda was so enthusiastic about it.

So jumping ahead, Vince calls Amanda cute after rejecting the script and then she wants to know if he really thinks she's hot. This is interesting because clearly the sexual tension was always there. But Vince isn't going to come out and say something about that. Amanda did almost immediately after she realized that she had the chance to get in Vincent Chase's pants. Now while it was her suggestion to bang each others brains out (why can't I get phone calls like that?), you have to think about how this is going to progress forward. She said they should have sex to get rid of the tension and move forward professionally. So what's the obvious kink in that? It seems likely that she'll fall for him, to the point where it'll smother Vince and he'll do what he does with every woman he sleeps with. Break-up! Thus setting the stage for his come-back tour with Ari.

Other thoughts:

  • Loved that both Babs and Mrs. Ari were in this episode. We need more of them. Both always make for good scenes.
  • Are we going to get to see Drama on set of Five Towns again?
  • Where the heck is Shauna? I know Debi Mazar had a kid and all, but shouldn't her character be around every so often? Especially when her star client is in the midst of looking for a new movie? She's a publicist!

rating 7So it looks like we have a better idea of where this season may be going. It would be nice to see Medellín come back for real, but in the meantime I can deal with Ari being Ari and Amanda being smitten. He's going to find out she slept with Vince and it's going to be glorious. So because of all that, and for what I think we have in store, this episode felt damn near perfect to me. So I'm going to give it the coveted TV Squad 7. All episodes of Entourage should be this good.

The song at the end of this episode was Salvador by Jamie T, last week it was Tumbling Dice by the Rolling Stones.

Go to www.hbo.com/entourage, each episode has music credits that break out each song per portion of the show.

Does anyone by chance who sang the song that played during the credits of that last episode?

As for the episode, I am hoping for a sexy scene as well because Amanda is hot. Also, Jeremy Piven's tirades are what keep me watching the show. The "Entourage" is getting a little tired...

Great forum - thanks for putting this together.

Cheers,

Tallac

Count me among the masses who expect Vince to fall for Amanda. I know I would.

what a tour de force for jeremy piven in this episode. he was all over the place emotionally and brilliant at that.

Amanda is super hot and one can only hope for a classic Vincent Chase sex scene that spans 4-5 cuts for a few minutes.

I think piven's acting in this episode made it amazing but still not better than the first one of this half. or maybe i just thought it was good because i was in entourage withdrawl.

Amanda fall for Vince? No way. This'll be Mandy Moore II. He'll be smitten and miserable.

The real question: what does Ari know about Medallin?

Amanda's going to fall for Vince? If anything, I think it'll be the other way around. Amanda is a dominating person who knows the effect her sexuality has on men. She offered to sleep with Vince as a way of controlling him. (The same way she pushed him to take a role she must have known he wouldn't enjoy, and almost succeeded at getting him to do it.)

When Vince eventually goes back to Ari, it'll be because he realizes that while Ari is a jerk, he still has Vince's best interests at heart more than Amanda does.

Amanda is a smart, hard-working woman... what would she want with a lazy slacker who lives with three guys-- other than making money off of him. She'd be sleeping with a producer or studio exec.

This was the best episode of the season ...partly due to the fact that pardon the expression...the writers gave Amanda some BALLS. By making her character little more dimensional it allowed the show to get back on track. Having her humble E and Vince was great, and putting her in a relationship with Vince is going to reap dividends for the rest of the season.

Looking forward to the upcoming episdoes I cant wait for the Drama-Chuck Lidell feud.....I am sorry to say but this show truly operates at its best when its the male version of a soap opera (remember the whole Seth Green story line, Sloan's dad and Ari feud....alll priceless TV gold!!!)....

OTher observations ......having Ari back to his old self makes everything all better.

**Note to the Producers**
NO More shirtless Turtle scenes PLEASE!!!!!

Great episode. We all know at some point Ari will be Vince's agent again, but I don't think its going to happen as fast or easy as we think. If Vince barely had the balls to tell her he didn't want to a movie, where is going to get the balls to fire her?
