Lost death pool analysis: The newest spoilers
(Spoiler Warning) With only a few weeks left until the big Lost season finale, speculation about the final episodes is popping up all over the place. The past two weeks of TV Guide's Ask Ausiello have featured the most exciting spoilers of all. Death has been absent from Lost episodes recently, but it will be back in full force next month. More than a few of you could be catching up to the death pool leaders. Things could get very interesting!
This post is all about possible character deaths, so please stop reading if you want to be unspoiled for the rest of Season Three.
Last week, Michael Ausiello claimed that five people would die by the end of Season Three. This week, he gave out even more details. Apparently the group of five will be "a mix" of Others and crash survivors. One side will suffer more losses than the other. Ausiello also believes that Juliet will not be killed. So who's left?
The Others: The only Others that were picked in the pool are Alex, Ben, Jacob, Karl, and Tom. With the exception of Jacob, I think that these are decent picks. Jacob is so mysterious that it would be pointless to reveal his identity and immediately kill him. It could happen, but it would be sort of a letdown. If there is some major showdown between the Others and the survivors, I can see some minor Others getting killed (Tom, etc.). There are several Others that no one picked because they had not yet appeared. People like Richard Alpert, Isabel, and Aldo could die as well. I would be surprised if all of the deaths involved major characters. Look for some minor players to die.
The Crash Survivors: I don't even want to think about this one. Any death among the 815 group would be sad. Charlie is an obvious choice, given Desmond's premonitions. His flashback episode, "Greatest Hits," is coming up, and characters often die during their back story episodes. Many of you stand to profit from a Charlie death. I was surprised that every single crash survivor was marked for death in the pool, even Aaron. You people must have no faith in the survivors' ability to defend themselves! One or more of you will be receiving points, no matter who dies. For my money, the most likely candidate for death is Locke. He's in a position to confront his biggest personal demon, just like Eko was before he died. The least likely? Hurley. Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse know that they would have a riot on their hands if Hurley died.
