Vote for your favorite SNL short and you may be at the season finale

Vote for Dick in a Box, and you can win a trip to see SNLLet's face the brutal truth here for a moment: Saturday Night Live isn't really known for its live sketches anymore. I can't remember the last time I heard someone talk about how funny a sketch was on a past week's show. However, when it comes to their digital shorts, well, then they're the bomb (as the young generation is saying today). The trend began last year with the super-colossally popular Lazy Sunday short, followed weeks later by the semi-super-colossally popular Laser Cats. The digital short sensation continued this year with Dick in a Box and Peyton Manning for the United Way.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that NBC is trying to jump on the popularity of these shorts with a contest that will send one lucky participant to the season finale of SNL.

All you have to do is vote for the best digital short from the 2006/07 SNL season. Just go to the NBC.com website, view the shorts, and make your decision. If you're lucky you may be chosen to visit New York City for the May 18th finale (or the rehearsal before the season finale, depending on availability). The digital short that wins will be shown on the best(?) of SNL 2006/07 show which airs May 5th.

I really don't know how Dick in a Box can lose this contest, as it was one of the most popular shorts of the season and pretty damn funny. Although, I think Peyton Manning for the United Way has a good chance of giving Box a run for its money. What I wish was on the list was Maraka, that very funny send-up of Dora the Explorer. Now that is something I would have voted for.

The best digital short, hands down, was the Natalie Portman hardcore rap from last season. Waaaaay better than Lazy Sunday, and better than dick in a box, too. It's so much sharper than all the rest.

@ bd: Clearly being live wouldn't be an excuse for sucking. But SNL doesn't suck all the time. SNL's suckiness seems to be one of those things that everyone always talks about but then follow up with "but I haven't watched it since...". I'm just saying that yes SNL is hit-or-miss but for me there's enough hits to keep watching. _Not_ being live though should raise the bar for humor rather than lower it. [I'm talking to use Mencia.]

Dick in a box will win by a longshot, but Sloaths will always be my favorite.

@ Thomas, perhaps you can direct us to this live comedy show which airs as often as SNL does that is so much better. :) I'd watch it if it existed.

To be honest, in a good comedy programme these would only be considered average at best.
