Does Simon miss Sanjaya?

Sanjaya goes homeWeeks ago, Simon declared that he'd quit if Sanjaya won American Idol. But now that Sanjaya is gone, it looks like even Simon has a soft spot for this season's most controversial contestant.

Simon reportedly said, "I do miss Sanjaya in a way. Even though I had problems with his vocals, I always looked forward to him coming on each week. I never knew what he'd wear or what he'd do."

I have to agree with Simon. I never cared for the kid's singing. But he did give us "something to talk about." And without controversy, isn't Idol just Star Search with phenomenal ratings?

And while I've defended Sanjaya's place in the competition, I myself never became a true-blue Fanjaya. But I also never thought he'd win this thing, so it didn't really bother me that he overstayed his welcome. Still, I'm glad he went home when he did. Could you imagine the uproar it would have caused if he made it to the finale?

Simon said, "He's very charming! I'm glad he is on the show, but I'm equally glad he's not going to win. I think if he'd had won we might have had a problem!"

How about you? Do you miss Sanjaya? Even a little?

I had always thought that the purpose for Idol was to identify new singing talent--select those who would go on to be big stars. It appears however, that some think that the show is a "haven" for those who are strange, no singing talent, a beauty shop for hairdos, etc. As I have always understood the show, it was for singing only and not if the person was cute, weird, shy, etc. I would agree with many of the those involved in TV scheduling--it is time for Idol to end. It no longer serves any purpose.

To tell you the tuth, I have heard worse. I mean, half the popular aacts these days are fronted by guys who can barely carry a tune anyway! Raise you hand if you think Madonna is a great vocalist. A mediocre singer with star power goes further than a great singer with none. Can I get a amen!

i really miss sanjaya, of course! i mean, his singing wasn't that great, but, like simon, i could never wait to see what he would do with his hair and wardrobe. i also loved his personality on stage. he always looked like he was having fun, even when he was getting critisism from the judges. when he got voted off, i was disappointed, but in a way i was glad that people had stopped voting for the worst. i'm glad he'll be going on tour with them, but if he had made it to the finale, i don't think anyone would be happy. the week after he was voted off, i was bored because i wanted to see him. oh well. the others are great singers and i wish them all the best.

Let me say this. American Idol's producers made sure to include Sanjaya in this week's shows by showing camera shots of him in the studio audience. So they didn't want that "I miss Sanjaya" mode all throughout the shows, while the focus was on the 6 singers left. Even Jack Black mentioned him in his act. So the Sanjaya craze is strong. I think he's going to receive many TV and music offers from everybody after this season ends. He's all over the place--they don't want him to vanish and be forgotten like past finalists. He has the humor and charisma. Just don't let him sing at this moment.

What I find comical is the fact that Simon was the one in the beginning that pushed him through stating that he was a better singer than his sister.

Could we have another Michael and Janet Jackson on our hands? Or Kelly Ripa asked him if he would be doing the Donnie and Marie Osmond thing! I think I would have to watch almost like the rubber-neckers on the highway watching a bad crash!

I have to say that my heart does belong to several other contestants and I hope to see them almost win! Is it just me or don't the singers do better if they don't go all the way!

As tears trickled down his face I thought, "Could Sanjaya really have thought he was going to make it to the end?" I'm guessing that he didn't he watch the show at the end when the recap are aired and I cringed out of embarrassment for him compared side by side to his peers. Bar none there was NO vocal contest!

Idol should be happy that Sanjaya was on the show to boost even more water cooler talk. He is all over the place, Letterman, Regis and Kelly, hell...he even turned up at the White House! Talk about getting your 15 minutes worth! Rock on Rockstar!! More power to you man!
