Smallville: Nemesis

(S06E19) Alternatively titled "Welcome Back, Lionel" ... or the "Clark and Lex Tunnel Exploration Power Hour". Was that some pretty heinous underground action or what?
Okay, right off the bat I have to admit ... this was a pretty darn cool episode of Smallville. I'll get to the bones I have to pick with it later, but for the most part it really rocked. You've got Lex and Clark sort of facing off, sort of friends again, Clark wondering if he gave up on Lex too early, Lana being pretty hard-nosed and kick ass ... and all of this without any super powers at all and they kept me interested the whole time. I'm sold.
There were some powerful moments in here, but the trump card of all of 'em was when Lex came back to rescue Clark in the tunnels. I didn't see that one coming at all, and I've suddenly started to like the Lex / Clark dynamic again, anyone else? That was a killer scene and it restored at least some of my faith in Lex. I mean, I know he's a totally slimy jerk (as is especially evidenced by the scene at the end of this show) but come on, that was a cool scene when he came back.
Speaking of the ending of the show and the Ares project, man I really feel sorry for the woman who played his wife. She basically blew herself up for nothing. I have no doubt we'll be revisiting the Ares project and Wes Keenan again, but his mad bomber wife really went out with a bang. Even though we've seen the "Kidnapped Lex" storyline several times before, she was a pretty interesting character. Guess she's sort of toast now, though.
As cool as the episode was, I had a few bones to pick. For one thing, remember how badly Lana's necklace used to affect Clark? Well, now he's in an underground bunker filled with meteor rocks, plus there's meteor rock dust in the air, and he's not only not on the ground puking his guts out, but he's also able to crawl through debris tunnels just inches away from the rocks. I just couldn't buy that, unless it's somehow explained later. Is Clark getting tougher and able to resist the rocks a bit more now? Throw me a bone, writers.
The other thing is a lot more minor, but remember when Lana got Lex's gun and shot the locks off his briefcase? Well, it was sitting on Lex's glass desk. I know Lana isn't Annie Oakley, so how did she pull that off? BAM, BAM and no smashed desk? Pretty impressive shot, or else those special effects really do work. Granted, it's a small nitpick, but a nitpick nonetheless. Overall, I really enjoyed this entire episode, and now I don't want anyone to die, even Lana. A solid 6 out of 7 for this episode.
There was yet another Smallville: Legends -- Justice & Doom pseudo comic book during the commercials, which is again just a thinly disguised Yaris commercial, but I'm still enoying these things. This one flew by a little too quick to read some of the text, but it was still a nifty little comic book.Quote of the show:
- Martha Kent: "Your greatest strength might also be your greatest weakness ... your hope."
