Lost to end in two years

by Isabelle Carreau, posted May 4th 2007 4:41PM

LostFans of ABC's Lost may recall hearing that Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof demanded from the network that an end date be set for the series so they could properly map out the upcoming episodes and seasons and conclude the show in a satisfying way (for them, maybe not for us fans). Well, according to E! Online, ABC will soon announce that Lost will conclude at the end of Season 5 (we're currently in season 3).

Some fans may think this is bad news but if you take time to analyze it, you'll see it is a good thing. Producers and writers now have the assurance that ABC will air the show for two more seasons, nothing more and... nothing less. This means that they can plan the storylines and reveals accordingly. And, hopefully for us, they can plan a proper series finale instead of planning a "season finale that could serve as a series finale" or just leave us hanging with tons of cliffhangers and no more episodes to answer the questions.

The network is also rumored to confirm this report that Lost will air from January to May starting next year so that episodes air in a back-to-back fashion à la 24. The last news ABC is set to announce about the series' schedule is that it will more than likely go back to its original time: 9 p.m. Expect these announcements to be made during ABC's Upfront presentation on May 15.

I'm content with just two years. Then we know that they will be able wrap up the storylines, provided us final answers and end on a high note. I think this is a great plan.

And I think that more shows, especially those with on-going storylines, should go to the 24-type airing of straight episodes.

I & my family will be Lost when you take "LOST" off the air! How about 3 Years? Wouldn't that be more realistic? With all the loose ends, Two years well not give YOU, THE WRITERS the time to answer all our Questions in a way to please ALL of us! And if they do get off the Island. You MUST show us how they are doing back in the real world. That's a nather year! Please, don't leave us hanging at the End!!!!!!
THANK YOU!! ROCK

Darren: Yeah your right, normaly thats the time show's start, but with Lost that date kinda sucks.. either you get a lot of gaps in the run, or they split like they did this season, with first 6 episodes and then a hiatus and then the rest back-to-back.. What they want to do is wait for the season to start in Jan. and then run only back-to-back, which i like a lot!

Awesome. I think Showtime and HBO proved that five seasons of anything is just about perfect (I'm thinking of Six Feet Under and Sex & the City here).

Hey Tim, I like your thinking. Ending on episode 108 would make for some interesting symmetry! They have had 23 official episodes the first two seasons, and 22 for the third according to IMDB. So that's 68 by the end of season 3. So they'd have to do two seasons of 20 episodes apiece to get to 108.

Can someone explain to me or them when the new TV season starts - since when is it JANUARY! It's September/October!!!! But on the plus side I'm very glad it will have a conclusion. If this was a FOX show it would be off the air already!

The show was also better in season 1.

I'm kind of sad. I was hoping next season would be the last. Now I need to wait 2 years to be disappointed with Lost's "answers".
