The Office's Karen: Should she stay or go?

rashida jonesThere are reportedly two versions of The Office season finale-- one where Karen leaves and one where she stays. The reason isn't so much about storytelling as it is about the uncertain future of Rashida Jones, who plays Karen. She starred in a pilot called The Rules for Starting Over for Fox and now is waiting to see whether it's being picked up. Kristen over at E! Online says it's a good chance Fox will pick up the comedy. We'll know what happens on May 17th when Fox reveals its fall schedule.

Soapbox time: I'd like to see Karen go. I like Rashida Jones, but it feels like her character is doing nothing but treading water these days. With Karen gone, there's even more of a reason for tension between Jim and Pam because they will have to decide whether to act on the opportunity to hook up. If Karen stays, I'm fine with that too, but I hope something juicy happens in the season finale to spice up her relationship with Jim and her coworkers.

I think Karen should go. I think her character was created in the first place to leave the show at some point.

Some of the commenters here are correct - since Casino Night, Pam has been a bit of a schlump. That's because she belongs with Jim - she is, in her own right, funny, intelligent, witty, beautiful and the kind of girl guys like to be with. But without Jim, either as a friend or lover, she's kind of lost - there's no one for her to play off of.

Karen's the spineless one - her boyfriend admitted to her that he still had feelings for Jim, and she's still hanging around? Wow, what a "smart and assertive" woman she is!

I WILL NEVER WATCH THE SHOW AGAIN IF THEY KEEP JIM AND KAREN TOGETHER!!!!! I WANT HER OFF THE SHOW!!! I HAVE DECIDED IF SHE STAYS AND JIM AND HER ARE STILL TOGETHER I WILL TUNE OFF

I much prefer Pam. Actually I adore her. Karen doesn't even have that sly sense of humor that feeds off of Jim.

Actually, bgdc, YOU are everything I would fear my children would grow up to be -- nasty, insulting, and a know-it-all. Ugggh.

It would be ok if she left.

I've always felt that the relationship was not very realistic. She is too hot for Jim.

But then again there won't be anyone hot left on the show...only homely Pam.

I'd like to see her for a few more episodes in the next season then have the show finally move on to Jim and Pam as it ought to be.

For goodness sakes...KEEP KAREN and give her back her character! They've ruined her the last several weeks. But despite that...I really want her to stay.

i rather a minute of karen screen-time than 10 of pam. she's getting more bland by the episode. i think jim deserves better.
