Extreme stupidity: Ty Pennington arrested

by Bob Sassone, posted May 7th 2007 4:01PM

Ty PenningtonIf you were to list all of the celebs that I thought would be arresteded for driving while under the influence of alcohol, I wouldn't think Ty Pennington would be on the list. Of course, that's a silly assumption, since anyone can drink and drive, but I guess I think of the Paris Hiltons and David Hasselhoffs of the world first. And unknown reality stars.

The Extreme Makeover host was arrested over the weekend and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and possibly drugs too. Pennington released a statement saying that he "made an error in judgement" and "I want to apologize to ABC and my fans..." Translation: "I've done this before and it sucks that I got caught" and "damn, I hope this doesn't screw up my ABC gig!"

Hopefully he doesn't build those houses in the same condition.

Oh come on guys! you can tell by looking at him and by the way he acts that he gets stoned all the time...is it really that surprising?? I don't judge him though...it's so easy to put on a front..and easier when you host a show like the one he does. Just because he is *one* of the many people who got caught doesn't mean he's a bad person.

I would like to know what TY has to say about this... Everyone is so quick to judge. Until we hear from HIM what happened, and why he made this terrible decision, we have NOTHING to say!

Drinking & Driving is AGAINST THE LAW! Period.
And NOONE is above our laws...
Paris Hilton? Expected! Because she is out of touch with reality. Ty Pennington? Not!

He IS a responsible person. He is a very highly respected person. And, obviously he has chosen a career path that allows him to be a POSITIVE contributor to our Society, unlike others who just abuse their fame! Some people think (Paris) that they can say, do, or act anyway THEY choose, regardless of what is legal and what is not...
Unfortunately for Ty, his arrest comes at a time when I think our Country is at their wits end with the disgrace that some celebrities have put on all Americans... For God's sake! Paris is asking the CA Governor for a pardon?" Give me a break!
Ty, I think, needs to address his fans, and for that matter "America." He is a public figure, that has acted badly, and because of his position, and as a person that we trust "to do the right thing" he should no. wait. he needs to apologize and explain to all of us why? Until then... it is not our business to assume anything!

At least Ty had some dignity (Probably to save his job with ABC), instead of going into some mental racial tirade like that ugly feak Mel Gibson or Michael Richards (Although not drunk driving, but still an ugly freak with mental problems nonetheless).

Personally, I can't stand this guy, his fake enthusiasm, his bullhorn, his grandstanding, and, most of all, this hokey, hackneyed show that my wife forces me to watch with her. It sets my teeth on edge.

I hope he has to disappear into some rehab for a few months so we won't be subjected to his mania for awhile.

"Why do people with money get behind the wheel after drinking?"

For the same reason that just about everyone else gets behind the while (or more accurately after) drinking - the don't believe that they're too drunk to drive, that they haven't had enough to drink to be over the limit, and that they are safe enough to go a short distance. They're idiots of course but just because you have money doesn't mean you're smart.

I can confirm that Ty doesn't do anything but show up when the cameras are rolling. During the Austin remodel, he came in when the house was demolished and then again for the big reveal. He never showed his face the entire rest of the week. He's just a face that ABC uses to draw in viewers, that's it.

Why do people with money get behind the wheel after drinking? It is bad enough when the avg. joe sixpack drinks and drives....But people that have the money to have a car & driver......I mean -- driving really kind of sucks, why do people like Paris and Ty even drive at all....let alone after they have been drinking?

Everyone makes mistakes...with that being said I must say this is a irresponsible and potentially deadly thing Ty did. He has been on E.M.:H.E. for awhile and have dealt with stories of families who have suffered the loss of a loved one due to a drunk driver. He should have known better. There are lots of cabs who would have picked him up and given him a ride home or to a hotel for him to sleep it off.

I like Ty but he should be more responsible. He should be suspended from the show for a time but not fired.
