Friday Night Lights is coming back, says Austin paper

by Joel Keller, posted May 10th 2007 7:18PM
Friday night lightsFans of Friday Night Lights will be very happy to hear this: Diane Holloway of the Austin American-Statesman is reporting that NBC is renewing the show for a second season.

Holloway, the paper's TV writer, got her information from the assistant to executive producer and Austin, TX resident Sarah Aubrey. Apparently the assistant -- and by extension, Holloway -- knew before Aubrey did, since she was in a meeting when her assistant got the news. The production will stay in Austin, which is a good thing; can't get that authentic Texas feel in California, know what I mean?

This is good news; FNL was one of the best shows of this past season, and one of the best new shows to come down the pike in a good long time. Superior writing and acting -- including star turns by Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton -- made it an excellent watch every week. Glad to see NBC is keeping their promise to nurture quality shows. Now we need to know if they're renewing Scrubs next.

[thanks to Will for the tip.]

I loved this show. I'm so glad it got renewed if only I can see more of the witty dialogue between Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton.

Best news I've heard all day. I know there was some talk about moving the shooting to New Mexico or somewhere the production could get some tax breaks, but I'm really glad to see that they're staying in Austin.

Awesome. I'm liking NBC more and more these days, they're making some gutsy moves on behalf of really good shows.

Thank you, NBC!! Thank you!!! This is amazing news. I am in total shock. I really cannot believe that we get to see more of this brilliant show. I might even send an e-mail to NBC thanking them for renewing it. I mean other networks would have cancelled it immediately because of the low ratings. I swear if this show was on Fox, it would've gotten cancelled after airing just two episodes!! I'm so glad that NBC is going to give FNL another chance to prove that it is one of the best shows on television.

FNL...they won State so graduation is coming soon. ...and some of the stars are seniors...will they stay in Dillon and get jobs..or go off to college...22 new episodes will be a stretch..but is it a great well written, well acted show...looking forward to it.
