It's official! Battlestar will end after next season

by Keith McDuffee, posted May 11th 2007 8:54PM
bsgWord has come down from Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama) recently that, indeed, Battlestar Galactica will end after its fourth (next) season. This should be of not much surprise to many fans of the show, since the New York Post made mention of the high probability of this scenario back in March. I also seem to recall creator Ron Moore making mention of this in one of his podcasts.

Again, I applaud Moore and anyone else responsible for such a decision, as the series can be cleanly wrapped up in a way that will make it enjoyable to watch repeatedly for generations, unlike the other crap out there that has no idea when to call it quits. Thankfully Lost has made a similar decision, and hopefully its quality will improve as a result (with the exception of the latest episode, it's been a crappy season for Lost).

(UPDATE: For all you naysayers and doubters, here's the proof that should settle this now. And I took out the question mark from the title because of it.)

Keith, no it's pretty clear you are the dumbest blogger here. Yes, it's clear season 4 is the end. Though Moore and Eick refute what Olmos, Sackoff, and others are saying. (Perhaps Moore and Eick have a secret plan for more episdoes or more BSG DVD projects.) But, Moore never said the 4th season would be the last on his podcast. Get your facts straight. Listen to the podcast. He said the show was entering the last act, the 3rd act of a 3 act structure to the series. But, he didn't say all of act 3 would take place in season 4. In fact, he said the opposite on that podcast.

Just making clear what he actually said, instead of relying on your foggy memory. (Drug haze?)

Your comments on Lost simply showcase your ignorance. This season of Lost has been the most novel-like in structure. Each episode has been a chapter in a book. Maybe that book is too meaty and challenging for your and your ilk.

There have been a few missteps this season, I think mostly with having to start out with that long break between the fall and springtime return. Doing 16 episode seasons from now on will avoid those kinds of problems.

Anway, it would be nice if there were a course in college for bloggers to actually learn about journalism, and how to write reviews. Maybe you should brush up on the writings of Roger Ebert, Pauline Kael, and Janet Maslin to learn about how it's done.

My major problem is not so much the ending of BSG, a great show. But there is a forthcoming dearth of new good scifi series to watch. I am fed up of scifi thinking that a new monster 2 hour TVFilm is better stuff. Cheaper maybe but I give all these a miss.

Wow, some people are so sensitive about any criticism about their favorite shows. Calm down people, they're just words... about something on tv that you have no connection to aside from being a viewer. Settle down, no need for personal insults.

Ron Moore has been quoted as saying that the show is entering it's final chapters but nothing beyond that and certainly nothing about whether or not that means the shows next season is its last. Whatever the case it's probably best for all concerned to get proper confirmation, Less feathers getting tossed that way. That and it would save us all the needless dragging of other shows into the issue.

*hugs Keith*

I think season four will be the last (the large episode order was the clue) and it's okay.

I just hope there'll be less stand alones and no more Starbuck/Apollo "romance".

Lastly Lost blows six ways to sundays.

I must live in another dimension because I think last episode of lost was the worst of all.

Such a crappy way to put a new "filler". It was like watching latino soap operas.

Totally overrated episode.

keith,
1) i suspect your random slamming of lost was merely fodder to generate comments.

2) this being so, why act surprised when it stirs controversy?

let me give your brilliant technique a try:
you suck, but elizabeth chan takes the cake as worst tvsquad blogger.

what? elizabeth chan has nothing to do with your tvsquad posts? sorry i dared mention her lameness. shame on me.

Wow, sorry I dared mention my disappointment with Lost. Shame on me. Thanks for setting me straight, Mel.

As for the 4th season being the last, I really seem to recall Ron Moore saying in a podcast (the latest one he did?) that the series was wrapping up after the next season. So OK, maybe the headline's a bit harsh as being "official". I'll edit to be a question. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

The first half of this season of LOST sucked pretty hard.

However, the last nine or so episode have gotten increasingly better. "The Brig" was one of the best episodes of the entire series. They'll get back in their groove. I'm sure of it.

Onto BSG. I don't know how I feel. I don't want them to go off the air. Not even one bit. However, if Kara can truly lead them to Earth, it's going to happen in Season Four, and I don't know what they're going to do after they arrive at Earth.

As much as I'd love for one of my favorite shows on television to stick around, I don't want them to overstay their welcome and see the product turn mediocre.
