Jack in the Box sued over commercial - VIDEO

by Adam Finley, posted May 29th 2007 6:42PM

cowA couple new commercials for Jack in the Box's new sirloin burgers has spurred CKE Restaurants to file a lawsuit against the fast food chain. In one of the offending ads, Jack, the mascot, tells his fellow board members about the new sirloin burger. When he's asked to point to the "Angus" part of the cow, he says, "I'd rather not," indicating that it comes from the part of the cow that could be described as "Angus" without the "g." CKE Restaurants owns Hardee's and Carl's Jr., both of which serve Angus burgers.

CKE Restaurants, correctly, points out that Angus is not a cut of meat but a type of cow. The lawsuit, which was filed Friday, claims the ads confuse consumers into thinking that Jack in the Box offers a better quality meat than Burger King.

Jack in the Box has refused to remove the ads, citing an ad from Carl's Jr. that suggests its milkshakes are superior to its competitors.

What none of these lawyers and fast food owners have taken into consideration is that all this talk takes attention away from my new restaurant that only serves meat from the animal's butt. I'm calling it Uncle Rumpenstein's Booty Buffet. Grand opening is next month. Bring the kids.

Yep, Jack in the Box in the news once again. Their commercials have always been a bit "edgy"; that's Jack's persona. This commercial is a very good representation of that.

Well, what better way to get free publicity? Costs less to sue and get all over the internets than to launch a vindicitive counter campaign.

Wow, I am amazed sometimes about how some lawsuits can even come into court. The only people I can think of that could possible sue is the ..."Beef" people, because it does not slander any other restaurant, but instead maybe the cow. Even then it is a huge stretch, but hey I guess that is why lawyers make more money that me.

I think the advert is fun and it's nobody's fault but the other chains for walking right into that.

"Angus" burgers could, in theory, come from the angus (minus g) of an Angus cow.

I want to advertise my own restaurant too.

It's called "Tasty Holes" and we only serve the holes. Any whole you can think of, from Donut over Bagle to Cow.

Remember: You get the whole hole only at "Tasty Holes".

Tasty Holes. Holes to make you happy.
