Waterston looking to become the next D.A. on Law & Order

In case you forgot, Claire Kincaid's (Jill Henessy) character was killed in an auto wreck just before being replaced by Carey Lowell (JUDGE Jamie Ross in L&O: Trial By Jury). Stephanie March's Alexandra Cabot became a Bureau Chief in Conviction. While I might agree with bringing back Richard Brooks as Paul Robinette, I think I might more favor a return of Michael Moriarty as Ben Stone.

Personally, I think it's the perfect time for the return of Nick Falco, who last time I checked was going to law school. With the end of The Soprano's, I'm sure he's available.

I could see McCoy as an interim DA, but I don't think he would ever run. He's too much of a cowboy, a rogue element. That's what makes him so awesome. Robinette running for D.A., THAT would be drama, and I think he would have the credentials having been a lawyer on both sides of the aisle.

This was sort of implied in the season finale, although McCoy demurred by saying he "wasn't a politician." And there certainly is a big difference between being a DA, an elected partisan position, and being an ADA, an allegedly nonpartisan civil service job. McCoy also seems a bit leftist to get elected DA, although we did have Nora Lewin (Dianne Wiest) for a few years, and with Bloomberg replacing Giuliani, maybe it's possible for a law and order (lower case) liberal to get elected again.

I would say President Bush asked Branch to become Attorney General after Gonzales gracefully exited, proving he would resign only on his own timetable, then McCoy was appointed Acting DA and decides to run for a full term. McCoy then asks Serena to return as an ADA-- it would be a shakeup to have two chicks--one a lesbian! and one ethnic conservative!--instead of a guy in charge assisted by a woman.

I could buy McCoy in that role. I'm sure Waterston could use the break. While DA's are ordinarily elected, didn't they suggest that Wiest's character was appointed as interim DA. Maybe McCoy would get a similiar appointment. The problem, of course, is that DA's are elected to 4 year terms in New York, so Branch would be thought to have been finishing his first term.

I'm with Sparky, if Waterston moves up to DA, bring in David Morse. Or spin it somehow that Richard Brooks returns to the Office as Paul Robinette. Sure, he had some run-ins as a defense attorney with McCoy, but wouldn't an ADA that doesn't seem eye to eye with his boss be a change?

I'm unsure if moving McCoy to the DA is the best thing, but doing so would keep continuity in the show, and that role has been a revolving door since Schiff left. The replacement should be a well known character actor who could move into a front line role. Suggestions for consideration would be David Morse, Tim Matheson, Ed O'Neill, Craig T. Nelson or Gary Sinese. I agree with the other gentleman who suggested bringing Chris Noth's Mike Logan character back to team with Ed Greene.

I'd actually love Stephanie March (SVU) to come back as the ADA working for Jack. She's smart and feisty, and they could have some good chemistry together.

What about Claire Kincaid? Obviously she never died in that car crash.
She's been working undercover on a case for the feds (investigating corruption in the Boston coroner's office), but that's done and now she can return, just in time to help Jack celebrate his victory in the election for D.A.

Always thought he would move into that role eventually, but didn't think he'd have to actually negotiate for it. Should be interesting, but will miss McCoy's self induced delusional sense of justice.
