Did ABC use Paris Hilton to promote Dirty Sexy Money?

by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 8th 2007 6:35PM

Paris bannerIf you've been watching the 24 hour news channels today, you may have heard that Paris Hilton is heading back to jail. There was a media frenzy outside the L.A. courthouse this morning to rival anything that happened with O.J. or Michael Jackson. And many people in L.A. noticed a plane flying a banner overhead that read "We Love Paris - The Darling Family." It's part of a promotion for ABC's new fall show Dirty Sexy Money.

But ABC is saying that the banner didn't refer to Paris Hilton, it refers to Paris, France, because the Darling family (the family in the show) owns property in many exotic locales, including France.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. And this post doesn't really refer to Paris Hilton, it refers to the Hilton Hotel in Paris, France.

What a waste of advertising - it doesn't even include the show's title or what network it's on. This would be better if the show had been on for a while so people actually knew who the Darling famiy was (a.k.a. not real but a family on television).

Also, a show that supposedly supports Paris Hilton or will stoop that low and then claim not to is really not something I want to watch.

Last week I went to Tori Amos' concert here (Paris) and she sang a song meant as an homage to my city.

It started with "you are Paris ...but not Hilton..."

Maybe she was promoting DSM too (even though if that show ever makes it here it won't be before fall 2008)?
