So You Think You Can Dance: The Top 20 - VIDEO
(S01E05) I have to say, I'm glad to be done with the qualification episodes. The show is always best when it gets into the competition round anyway, but these last couple episodes have just been very poorly produced. It's hard to argue for or against any of the judges decisions about who is in, and who is out, because we have seen so little of the actual performances. Getting the final fifty contestants down to the top twenty followed along those same lines. It was an hour spent trying to create suspense that mostly fell flat. It's a little difficult being concerned whether or not someone is moving on when we haven't even been introduced to them. And since they refuse to put names on the screen, we aren't even sure who some of them are anyway.
Of those that were passed over, a few of them stood out to me. First, Olivia. As expected, she really didn't take it well. Everything we have seen of her throughout the competition showed her as very emotional and rather high maintenance. I was left wondering just how much that played in to the final decision not to move her in to the top twenty.
The one I was most disappointed to see eliminated was Janet Bombard. She's just adorable, and the story of her bouncing back after losing her arm to compete at this level was a very good one. It would have been interesting to see how she would do in the expanded competition.
And the elimination that most surprised me was Caitlin Cucchiara. She was so good in her original audition, and she really has the look and presence for this competition. I think her age may have played into it. She does have plenty of time to grow, learn more, and try out again.
With that, here are the top twenty dancers that we will be watching for weeks to come.
Girls: Ashley Lengus, Jaimie Goodwin, Sabra, Anya Garnis, Faina Savich, Lauren Gottlieb, Sara Van Gillem, Shauna, Jessi Peralta, Lacey Schwimmer
Boys: Danny Tidwell, Dominic Sandoval, Cedric Gardner, Ricky Palomino, Pasha Kovalev, Kameron Bink, Neil Haskell, Jesus Solario, Hok Konishi, Jimmy
