Traveler: The Out

(S01E04) This week, Jay and Tyler made another stop on their Tour of Innocence: Deer Harbor, Maine. I like the pattern of having each episode feature a different location with a new set of clues. There really haven't been any weak episodes yet, which may be a good sign for the show's future.
I really love that while Jay and Tyler are book-smart, they can be a little slow on the uptake. When they were on the boat, they didn't think twice when the Daniel Taft impostor went up on deck to "make a call" and locked them in. Even I saw that one coming, and I've been told that I'm fairly gullible. After everything they've been through, the guys are way too trusting. I couldn't believe it when Jay sauntered into the curiously-named Have Books, Will Travel and started asking questions. Cautious much, Jay?
Let's not forget the video clips of Jay and Tyler's anti-government statements. It's terrifying that someone could piece together footage of your random comments and make you look like a terrorist, isn't it? In the age of amateur paparazzi, you'd think the guys would be more careful about what they said on camera. I can only imagine what a video of my news-related rants would be like--my opinions about Paris Hilton alone would make me sound like a madwoman. It's a real treat to see how Will set the guys up over the years, and the flashback scenes continue to be my favorites.
Jay's trust in Maya ended up paying off. She gave them a few more pieces of the Will Traveler puzzle to consider, plus a mysterious key to boot. Will may have set the guys up for the bombing, but apparently he liked Jay and Tyler and felt he was serving his country. Maya felt that she and Will were used by the whoever planned the bombing--I wonder if Will was forced into "service" the same way that Maya was?
Unfortunately, Jay and Tyler didn't get any answers out of Will. The fake Daniel Taft mentioned that many people are looking for Will, and he was right. The FBI, the nameless Homeland Security guy, and even the hotel bellman (ABC calls him The Porter) have an interest in Will Traveler. The Porter and his impressive gun collection showed up in Deer Harbor, and it's still not clear whose side he's on. I can't wait to learn more about him.
The FBI scenes continue to be less than thrilling. I like the actors playing Chambers and Marlow, but the office conflicts have got to go. I feel like I've seen similar scenes in many shows over the past few years, and this show doesn't need that element. I'm also becoming less interested in Kim's storyline. With all the terrorist intrigue, do we really need to examine Kim's relationship with her father? Hopefully the next few episodes will include more scenes with Will; I'd like to hear what he's been up to (and how he got out of the Drexler alive).
Those are just minor criticisms, though. So far, the mystery has unfolded perfectly and I believe we'll get some real answers by the end of the season. It's unclear if a second season of Traveler is in the cards, but for now I'm just enjoying the ride.
