Drew Carey is latest contender for The Price is Right

by Anna Johns, posted Jun 21st 2007 8:24AM
drew careyHow do you feel about a beer drinkin', womanizing host of The Price is Right? I don't know Bob Barker, but I'm pretty sure that's very unlike him. But it is the persona that Drew Carey has cultivated over the years.

Drew Carey is the latest name to be mentioned for hosting The Price is Right, according to Variety. Apparently CBS and FremantleMedia North America have already spoken to Carey about the gig. Carey is already in a relationship with CBS as he is hosting the game show, Power of 10, which premieres in August. Variety says Carey makes sense as host of The Price is Right because of his "mainstream, blue-collar appeal." Carey joins Rosie O'Donnell, George Hamilton, John O'Hurley, Todd Newton and Mark Steines as possible replacements for Bob Barker.

What do you think about Drew Carey as host of The Price is Right? Personally, I think he's too much of an a--hole. I'd rather see someone like Tom Bergeron in that position.

I'm thrilled Drew was selected to be the "come on down" dude...he has the best personality with lots of surprises for everyone as he takes over the spot each day. It's great to have someone with the comedic mind he possesses. He has been on TV for a good while and his past shows have had great ratings. Now all he needs is "Mimi" for his sidekick..LOL...that would really be COOL....GO DREW...YOU..are the BEST!

I'm thrilled Drew is going to be the new host, with his wit and great big smile...I'd "come on down" anytime....he will bring a nice energy to the game show....I've always enjoyed him on all his past appearances on his show or as a guest.
He's quick with his responses and will do a wonderful job taking over for Bob Barker and bringing some fresh air to one of the oldest game shows on TV. Go GO GO DREW!

bad news for the pir...carey or rosie ...both lost in space.
what about an impressionist ..then he could be somone
different every week.
that is my pick, and I am sticking with it

Reality check....try to come up with just ONE game show identified so strongly with a long time hose that survived a change of MC....$10,000 pyramid without Dick Clark?
NOT! Jeopardy without Alex Trebek? NOT!! Password without Allen Ludden? NOT! Even newer shows.......Deal or no deal with out Harvey Mandel? Millionaire without
Regis? Not, with miss viero doing a worse job than the
Today show on the crappy syndicated version.........
Another thing...Drew is on another big new prime-time show, "The power of one", ready to be the next "Deal or no deal", starting next week........so drew goes from never hosting a game show(Improv was not one), to hosting a huge prime time one and THE major daytime one in history at the same time.......my hunch.....Drew oversaturates the airwaves, much like regis, but without
the ratings, and a faster and bigger flame out....Drew just
isn't charismatic enough solo, and always relied big-time
on ensembles of actors.....It's hard enough to tap the
charisma needed for a late-night talk show(ask Pat Sajak,
Arsenio, Joan Rivers, Chevy Chase, and many others who didn't have the power to harness that slot)...game
shows like the vehicles Drew will be hosting need huge personalities, with a great touch for the little guy. I personally couldn't think of anyone that could carry both of those shows, with apologies to Drew. It would be a absolute mirace if he does, but maybe he'll surprise us all.
Let's give the guy a chance, but, man does he have some big shoes to fill!

John O'Hurley for sure, he has the right personality and voice. Definitely my top choice. Why choose two unattractive and completely disgusting people like rosie and drew carey...they would ruin the show completely. John O'Hurley or maybe I'd even go for George Hamilton.

You can't replace Bob Barker, Just can't be done. So I think Drew would work, because he is the least like Bob. Rosy is way too opinionated to host anything. Has she not already shown us this?

After reading these comments about Drew being a womanizing a-hole, I would totally like to disagree. I know him personally and he is one of the kindest human beings on this earth. He deserves this job more than anyone else mentioned, and even though he may not be Bob Barker, he's still a great choice.

Drew would be perfect for the Price Is Right. He is a good announcer and has good charisma with people.
