Kyle XY: The Homecoming

Kyle XY(S02E02) My laptop died just before I was about to leave for a business trip on June 17. As soon as my plane landed in my hometown last Friday, I ran to a local computer seller and bought a new laptop. After a few hours of installing new software and doing updates, I can now bring you the Kyle XY second episode review.

Last week's premiere ended with Kyle going back to the Tragers and XX coming to life. Even if the episode was answers-packed, the ending left us with a few questions: Would Kyle and the Tragers be able to go back to how life was before he left? Would Kyle be able to keep his secret from his loved ones? Who would get a hold of XX first? What would XX's impact on Kyle be when they finally meet one another?

Would Kyle and the Tragers be able to go back to how life was before he left?

After seeing this episode, it seems that the answer to the question is yes. At least, for now. Thanks to Brian Taylor's lie, the Tragers have no more questions about Kyle's past. They now think that Kyle was indeed Noah and when he went missing for five years it was all Adam's doing. Brian claimed that Adam kidnapped Kyle because he looked like his dead son. Adam then raised Kyle as his son, teaching him math and sciences. Eventually, Adam committed suicide. Shortly after, Kyle came into the Tragers' life. Added to that lie was another one explaining why Kyle was now back: his biological parents died in a car accident. Brian was quite graphic when giving details of the car crash.

Kyle was not happy with the lie that Brian came up with but at least it means no more questions for a while. It was nice to see Kyle pretend to be able to predict the phone ringing so that Josh would still believe in his alien theory.

Would Kyle be able to keep his secret from his loved ones?

Doubtful. Josh was suspicious at one point during the episode but Kyle pulled the disappearing water trick to have Josh not dig deeper. With so many lies to keep track of, it's a given that Kyle will eventually slip and tell part, if not all, of his secret to Declan and/or the Tragers. For sure Declan will try to learn everything he can, maybe he'll even stalk Kyle to get the answers he so desires.

Who would get a hold of XX first?

Madacorp. Zzyzx being destroyed, the company behind the company now takes over the project. A mysterious black man is introduced and he knows XX is alive. He orders operative Emily Hollander (played by Battlestar Gallactica Leah Cairns) to track XX down and bring her back. Emily is quite good at her job and finds the new born teen at the docks. After shooting a tranquilizer in XX, Emily calls her boss to report her findings and tells him that there is something he will want to see on the scene. It looks like Zzyzx found a way to teach art classes to their projects as XX possesses the same artistic talent Kyle has. Her drawings reveal a lot to Madacorp... Kyle exists. Emily receives her new mission: track Kyle down. Will she be able to find him? Will she need XX's help?

It was quite interesting to see XX's first steps in the world. She seems to be learning things a bit faster than Kyle did. What an arm she has! That knife went through the tree as if it was cutting butter. Could she been the Yang to Kyle's Yin? Kyle was "born" under the sun while XX came to at night. He was lucky to be found by good people, when she learned the hard way (her first action was to kill a man!). I can't wait to see both of them evolve side by side yet under different circumstances.

What would XX's impact on Kyle be when they finally meet one another?

Since they hadn't been raised in the same tank, I didn't expect XX to react much when seeing Kyle for the first time. But it seems that the two share some sort of bond as Kyle sensed someone was looking at him and XX had big eyes and drew a picture of him. Do they share a similar bond that some twins have? Or is one of their powers to sense that others like them are around? It will be interesting to watch them really interact.

Foss is still on a mission

Foss did not wasted time to get things organized. He got hold of some sort of abandoned building where he is setting up shop to continue Adam's work and help Kyle develop his abilities. Foss tries to put some sense into the young teen's brain when Kyle says he wants to come clean with Declan. The argument between Foss and Kyle triggers one of the later's "powers" as two ceiling windows explode. Foss, of course, uses this incident to his advantage and tells Kyle that this is exactly why he can't tell Declan or the Tragers the truth.

This "power" of his seems to be unleashed when Kyle is getting angry or frustrated as he started to break his bedroom window when talking to Declan about not being able to say anything.

While we are on the mission topic, what is with the ring Adam gave to Kyle? What does the symbol mean? Will the ring open a secret passage way inside Madacorp?

Life goes on

Kyle is disappointed to learn that Amanda is still with Charlie. Will he ever tell her the truth so that she comes running to him?

The episode ends with a familiar setting: the Tragers getting ready to eat a meal together. The difference is that Kyle will now be an official member of the family. Little do the Tragers know that Kyle is not as normal as they now think.

(Kyle XY - S02E02) Should Kyle tell Amanda about Charlie's affair?

Hey Mel! I got suspicious of Nicole's therapist as well. It is common in TV to not see a psychiatrist or therapist so that the focus is kept on the character. Then again, they also hide those people for a few episodes so we grow suspicious and think it is someone we know and then BANG! the reveal happens and our jaws drop!

If it is someone we know, I just hope they don't wait too long for the reveal as it sometimes have a reverse effect and it is not a jaw-dropping moment as planned (since fans have been waiting forever to see who it was). Like on "Frasier" they ended up not showing Niles wife... They did plan to show her at one point and even did some fantasy casting but after thinking about it more and polling fans, they understood that fans had been waiting to see her for so long that no actress could meet up with that challenge and decided to not show her at all.

Another good episode, I really enjoy this show. Since the episode aired a full week ago, I can't really think of anything to point out, but here are some things I wrote in my blog review last week.

*I'm wondering about that therapist Nicole was going to. I don't think we ever saw their face, which makes me think that it's going to be some big reveal. Of course, it could just be that they wanted to focus on Nicole, and I'm televionally paranoid. Dude, I made up a word!

*Josh is many things, but disorganized is not one of them. He kept those detailed Kyle Files, and, after throwing a wild party, made a checklist of what he had to do to make the house clean and erase all the evidence. I like that about him. He's not the smartest or most tactful kid, but he is organized.

*Did you see the way that guy in the woods threw that knife into the tree? He's totally a Supernatural hunter that just got lost, and, thinking that he was following Dean and Sam when it was really Jason and Dean in their respective Smallville and Gilmore Girls reruns, wandered onto ABC Family. Totally.

*XX need a shower. And some pants.

I'll be cantankerous and argue that Charlie may actually be being solicitous of Amanda by fulfilling his sexual needs elsewhere instead of pressuring Amanda, who isn't ready. In the good old days, your dad paid for your first hooker when you turned 16. These days everything's more expensive, but there's always a school slut who wants to hang with the popular boys.

Chester, the piano piece is Pachelbel's Canon in D. You can learn more about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_in_D_Major_%28Pachelbel%29

Can anyone help?
In season one, first few episodes Kyle's next door neighbour was sitting at the piano playing. Does anyone know what she was playing?
I've tried and nothing in the credits was mentioned that I saw.
