ABC renames Applegate show Samantha Who?

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Jun 26th 2007 2:21PM
Christina ApplegateTV Guide reports that Christina Applegate's new ABC series is now titled Samantha Who? As Bob reported about a week ago, the network failed to get permission from the estate of Dr. Seuss to use the title Sam I Am, which was the original title of the series but also refers to the Seuss book Green Eggs & Ham.

Before settling for Samantha Who?, the network and the people behind the show briefly retitled this series Samantha Be Good.

Both Samantha Who? and Samantha Be Good are fitting as the series revolves around a woman who suffers from amnesia after having been in a coma due to a car accident. As she tries to start her life over, the woman (played by Applegate) learns that she was not kind to people. Personally, I think they went with the better choice. Samantha Who? is a much more catchy title.

Samantha Who? is set to air on Mondays on ABC and stars, alongside Applegate, Barry Watson, Jean Smart, Jennifer Esposito, Kevin Dunn, Melissa McCarthy and Tim Russ.

The song is called "Whoo Whoo" and it is from a band called "Lit".
Lyrics:
I wish we could whoo whoo,
I want to hoo hoo
I like it when we na na
How bout some wha wha
I'd like to swish swish
Oh, with the fish fish
C'mon lets whoo whoo
And do some Choo choo.
(repeat 18x)

Looks like an interesting premise with a solid cast. Looking forward to it.

"Samantha Who?" isn't the greatest name in the world, but it's much better than "Samantha Be Good", which was horrible.

With the use of the word "Who", a very Seussian (yes I just made up a word) word, I wonder if it was a screw you to the Seuss estate.

If this is the kind of subtle humor that the show goes for, I will be watching.

Late-breaking news: The estate of Dr. Seuss has announced that it is blocking the new title because it also claims to hold the rights to the name "Who." "A lawsuit's a lawsuit, no matter how small," stated a company spokesperson identified only as "Cindy-Lou."

More as this develops.

You mean "hilarious" in an ironic way?

Wont the BBC get annoyed because it could cause confusion with DR WHO? ;-)
