Big Brother 8 - The official houseguests list

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Jun 28th 2007 6:41PM
Big BrotherTwo days ago, someone leaked a houseguests list that turned out to be bogus. Nonetheless, it was interesting to start speculating as to what the new Big Brother season would be like. Today, CBS sent out a press release with the real houseguests lists.

The bogus houseguests lists wasn't far from the truth when the season's twist is concerned. It was predicted that the twist would be "high school enemies." Well, CBS revealed that the houseguests would be living under the same roof as "an enemy, a rival or someone with whom they have unfinished business -- in short, someone from their past who they had hoped never to see again or someone with whom there is an extreme amount of tension."

But that is not all when twists are concerned. The 14 houseguests will also share the house with America! The series is adding an interactive feature that will "give viewers the most control they've ever had in the BB house," says the press release.

One houseguest was selected to be "America's Player." Viewers will have the chance to take part in a vote that will decide what special strategic or personal assignment this player will have to complete. CBS says that the player will have to do all it takes to complete the assignment even if said assignment has the player vote against a specific houseguest! To make matters worse for "America's Player," that person will not be able to tell the other houseguests about the assignments. Of course, CBS will give a little incentive to the player: money.

The 14 houseguests are:

  • Amber: 27-year-old cocktail waitress from Las Vegas.
  • Carol: 21-year-old student from Lawrence, Kan.
  • Daniele: 20-year-old waitress from Huntington Beach, Calif.
  • Dick: 44-year-old bar manager from L.A.
  • Dustin: 22-year-old shoe salesman from Chicago.
  • Eric: 27-year-old talent management assistant from New York.
  • Jameka: 28-year-old school counselor from Waldorf, Md.
  • Jen: 23-year-old nanny from Beverly Hills.
  • Jessica: 21-year-old college student from Haysville, Kan.
  • Joe: 23-year-old receptionist from Chicago.
  • Kail: 37-year-old woman who owns a business, from McKenzie Bridge, Ore.
  • Mike: 26-year-old painting contractor from Three Lakes, Wis.
  • Nick: 25-year-old former pro football player from Kimball, Minn.
  • Zach: 30-year-old graphic designer from Burbank, Calif.
The series, hosted again this year by Julie Chen, returns on July 5. The series will air on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. ShoToo subscribers will also have the chance to watch Big Brother: After Dark.

Why is it I wonder that everywhere that "Big Brother" airs except the United States has no problem with the audience voting for evictions. And if you think there isn't conflict in those other versions, you're wrong. What CBS has done is turn "Big Borther" into "Survivor" in a house.

If this were truly interactive and a live-action SIMS, people would spend the entire show getting the girls in the hot tub to make out and the guys to beat the snot out of each other. And then it would get American Idol-size ratings.

"Housemates nominate for eviction and the viewing audience votes out the housemates. BB also punishes hosuemates for even discussing nominations. So there's no alliances and strategy talks."

This sounds like the most boring thing I could ever watch on TV .. that's what the show is all about, conflict.

I prefer the Euro format. Wathcing BB8 from UK right now. Housemates nominate for eviction and the viewing audience votes out the housemates. BB also punishes hosuemates for even discussing nominations. So there's no alliances and strategy talks. Makes it more interesting to see individuals and relationships not based on voting pacts.

I think I'm finally gonna give this show a pass. The first few seasons were fun with a diverse set of people. Now it's just The Real World, so I'm out.
