Robin and the dating scene - VIDEO

by Adam Finley, posted Jun 30th 2007 10:02AM

robins big dateBased on some of the comments on the Popwatch blog, I already know this clip is old, but since it's new to me, it's probably also new to many other people.

And also, anything with Sam Rockwell is worth checking out at least once.

Rockwell plays Batman, though he's not the dark, mysterious hero we're all familiar with. Actually, he does everything in his power to ruin things for Robin (Justin Long, the "Mac" in those Mac/PC ads) as Robin tries to woo a lady (Callie Thorne of Rescue Me) at a local restaurant.

I'd actually like to see Rockwell play Batman in a feature film. I'm getting rather sick of the Dark Knight as such a brooding and depressed figure. I want to see a Batman who's a complete lout and thinks he's more of a ladies man than he really is.

Rockwell's performance is funny, but what makes the whole thing come together is Long playing his role completely straight. I always suspected this was the dynamic between the dynamic duo, anyway.

Or I guess I could have just clicked on the Popwatch link and watched the MySpace version instead. Meh.

Insanely hilarious, if mostly for Sam Rockwell. He was in full-on Zaphod mode, you can tell. I'm not really a fan of Justin Long, but he kinda won me over in this clip.

My only complaint is it was completely unwatchable if only for the jerkiness of the video. What is it, like 2fps? I had to find a windows media version on the web just to finish it.

Here's the WMV for those that want it: http://www.transbuddha.com/mediaHolder.php?id=1343
