Jericho producers have plans for a long run

by Joel Keller, posted Jul 2nd 2007 1:24PM
JerichoAs we all know, Jericho will live on next season, thanks to a concerted lobbying effort by the show's fans. According to CBS, seven episodes will be created, with the assumption that those episodes will tie up loose ends and conclude the series.

But as far as Carol Barbee, one the show's executive producers, fans shouldn't be making that assumption. "We are not closing this story out. We have a story to tell. It's a really rich story, and we've got it mapped out for quite a while." she told Broadcasting & Cable magazine. "The network suggested doing a two-hour movie to wrap up this story. We weren't in any way interested in closing it down."

The reason why they're only doing seven episodes, then? According to Barbee, CBS only had enough free sound stage time for a limited number of episodes. Interesting. So, if the fans of the show put their money where their nuts and e-mails are and actually watch the show, we may see it beyond those seven second-season episodes. That's a big "if", of course...

Jericho is alive and kicking people! We proved that CBS had something worthwhile to watch, and it kept viewers coming back week after week, no matter what the naysayers have to say!
Thank you for all you've done Carol, you rock!

“21. I'm sorry, Jericho's writing, acting, and story was just OK, on average. It was in no way, shape or form the best show on television, (Friday Night Lights might have had fewer viewers, but it was renewed for a second full season because the acting, writing, and story were actually incredibly well-written and poignant, intelligent and moving. Jericho was a pale shadow in comparison)”

In case you (or annyone else for that matter) somehow have had an anal-cranial-inversion, it really doesn't matter how "the acting, writing, and story were actually incredibly well-written and poignant, intelligent and moving"a show is if it doesn't make MONEY! That's it, it's REAL simple; so simple, an anonymous, blaise internet poster could see it, really.

"23. I am a die hard Jericho fan. Every show needs fans and they have them. Good solid TV shows have come and gone without a fair chance at gaining an audience. Jericho was one of them and it's fans decided to do something about it. We can't be faulted for that. If you want heart and soul and you are down to earth and want a show that makes you feel good about the human race then by all means you are a Jericho fan. The apathy in this country has gone on long enough. We just keep on standing by and watching things happen instead of making them happen. Ironically CBS, when they gave us Jericho reminded us that we have the right to stand up and fight for what's right, for what's ours and that's exactly what we did and will continue to do so. We will not fail. Thank Carol Barbee! You Rock!

Jericho Returns...Catch up friday nights starting July 6th at 9pm. You should be glad you did."

That was an articulate, yet concise, post. It IS disheartening that so many people find it easier to feel more comfortable with the disappointments in their lives by belittling ANY achievement (no matter how minor or how it was achieved) rather than either merely acknowledging it, or doing something (anything) that they are interested in... seems to me that many people nowadays are as crippled mentally/emotionally/socially as I am physically... sad

I have to disagree with the person that said that Jericho wasn't well written and the character's were lifeless. Jericho, like most series, took until the 2nd half of the season to really get it's footing. I liked the first episodes enough to fall in love with the show, but the 2nd half of the season just blew me away. I believe that there were alot more that just "16,000 really dedicated fans" behind bringing this show back. Maybe not all of the million's of Jericho viewers participated in the campaign, but this show has a larger fan base than alot of people realize and I believe that we can prove it's there the 2nd time around and that Jericho will be around to stay for awhile. Just my 2 cents!

I think the rumurs of a cancelation are crazy! Jericho the best show ever and I'm over the age of 50! I have watched the show from the very beginning and have never lost interest. I'll tell you that in my opinion the shows more entertaining than any reality, game, or the ever popular LOST! I hope Jericho continues for many more seasons.

Almost everyone at my office watches this show, plus my mom. Sometimes, I just gotta question the Nielsen numbers.

Thank you for the article, and thank you to Carol Barbee. I am a Jericho fan. I was very upset that the show was cancelled by CBS without closure, and having the fans blamed for it to boot. I stepped way out of my box to help save this show, and to talk to people about watching the show. very unlike me.

I'm glad that the producers are planning to write these next 7 episodes to allow for a future for Jericho. Anything else would be admitting defeat before we even get started on the new season
