ABC and NBC pilot casting news

by Adam Finley, posted Jul 17th 2007 10:01AM

lucy haleThree new network series, Backyards and Bullets, Cavemen and Bionic Woman, have brought new cast members on board.

NBC's Backyards and Bullets, formerly called The Watch, has added Kristin Lehman. Lehman will play the wife of a detective, a man who leads a neighborhood watch group that falls apart. Lehman's previous credits include Judging Amy, Drive and Prison Break.

Cavemen, ABC's sitcom about three cavemen living in modern America (based on the ubiquitous Geico commercials) has upgraded Julie White to a permanent role. She plays Leslie, the mother of the woman Joel, one of the cavemen, is marrying. White recently appeared in the Transformers movie and has also appeared in episodes of Six Feet Under and Rescue Me).

Finally, Lucy Hale has been added to NBC's Bionic Woman. She'll play the deaf* younger sister of Jamie Sommers (Michelle Ryan). Hale replaces Mae Whitman from the pilot. Hale previously appeared in episodes of The O.C. and Drake and Josh.

UPDATE: The character of Hale is no longer deaf (http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-lucyhalebionicwomancasting,0,826070.story?coll=zap-news-headlines) and will be a computer hacker in the reworked pilot. This information was not in the article I referenced above, so apologies for missing the information. Thanks to the reader who pointed this out.

Also, the younger sister on Bionic Woman is no longer deaf, they've rewritten the role to make her a computer hacker, instead. No longer deaf.

You should have known that, too.

Adam, Julie White's not just some actress being added to the Cavemen series, she's this year's Tony award winner for outstanding lead female in a play for The Little Dog Laughed, and you should have known that.

I did.

Well I loved Mae Whitman's performance (however brief it was) in NBC's extended trailer. I was hoping I'd get to see her actually, given that I loved Arrested Development and everyone involved in it. Oh well. I've seen Lucy in How I Met Your Mother and didn't think much of her but I guess this may be her chance to shine.

What a shame, another hearing person playing the role of a Deaf person when there are so many great Deaf actresses out there. I hope that it stirs an uproar that even we (the deaf) can hear. TV and film people need to look around again to see that there are many skilled people who are Deaf that can play Deaf people much more skillfully than any hearing person can. They have never walked in our moccasins.

The picture accompanying the Jon Lovitz/Andy Dick post is appropriately named andy_dick.jpg, so why is the picture accompanying this article named "cajdiodnfiofnfidhskdodifndks.gif"?

Lucy Hale first showed up on American Juniors, the American Idol spinoff for kids that only lasted one season. Maybe they can work her singing into the show. She was one of the 5 chosen for the group, that also didn't last long.

Lucy Hale was also Robin Scherbatsky's younger sister on How I Met Your Mother (episode: First Time in New York (#34))

Aw, that's too bad about Mae Whitman. I just watched her in that piece of crap movie on Lifetime last night. She was a blind girl terrorized by an escaped convict, played by the guy who is Dishher on "Monk."

Egg vs. Discher!

I think any "permanent" role on "Cavemen" won't prove that permanent after that stinker hits the tube.
