Big Brother 8: Episode 6

by JJ Hawkins, posted Jul 18th 2007 12:28AM
Amber crying in the diary room.

(S08E06) I know Amber's formal title is "Cocktail Waitress", but I'm thinking about writing the producers of Big Brother and seeing if we can't get that permanently changed to "Professional Crying Champion of the Universe."

I mean, seriously, have we made it through a single episode without her showcasing the puffy, reddened, "someone just kicked my puppy off of a bridge" face?

I'm surprised she doesn't walk around the house in a constant state of dehydration considering she loses about a quarter of her body weight in water each day through her overextended tear ducts.

I get it - Amber's an extremely emotional person, and while there's nothing really wrong with that, I did have a slight issue with her getting all teary-eyed because she would be playing in the Power of Veto competition.

Amber crying again.

I hate to break this to you Amber, but you applied to be on the show and I'd say there's around a 100% chance that you knew the show involved a little deceit, a lot of deception, and an overabundance of "awkward" situations.

I think it's about time she put on her big girl pants, sucked up those tears, and pulled out some talons. Otherwise, I'm afraid this game is going to absolutely destroy her and desecrate her body.

Early on, we got to listen in on an exchange between a pair of quasi love birds as Nick told Daniele that he had developed feelings for her and that he was in an alliance with Kail, Mike, and the crazy clown (Zach).

Daniele then revealed her silly secret to Nick and let him on the fact that she's actually a month away from being 21. I think the information Daniele received from Nick was much more useful.

in all honesty, I have a feeling that Daniele is serious playing Nick, something I'm guessing whatever NFL team he was on failed to do (I kid, I kid), and that this little relationship is going to come around and burn him at some point in the future. I'm sure we'll find out in the next few weeks.

America's Player

Tonight America voted on whose bed Eric would end up sleepwalking into. America obviously shares my sense of humor and decided to go with Joe.

Eric infiltrates Joe's bed.

Eric wandered into Joe's room at some ungodly hour and kind of nuzzled his face against Joe's leg like some sad dog cozying up to its sleeping owner.

Eric's main mission was to get Joe to actively kick him out of the bed, but he gave a few minutes into the mission saying, "If I had to wait for Joe to wake up and kick me out, I might have been there the rest of the season."

It was a pretty funny sequence of events and it led to this conversation between Joe and Eric the next day.

Joe: Do you sleep...do anything?
Eric: Sleep do anything? I don't even know where you're going with this but it sounds fishy already.
Joe: Well, I was sleeping and you know how a cat rubs your leg? You were like, doing that to me.
Eric: As far as I know nothing like that transpired.

Power of Veto Competition - The Cut Throat Christmas

This weeks POV competition was a combination of shuffleboard and that foolish Olympic sport called curling. Contestants took what's known in curling as a "rock" and pushed it along a ginormous shuffleboard with the hopes of getting as close to a red line in the center of the board as possible.

Each round the contestant whose rock was furthest away from the red line would be eliminated. They would then choose a present from beneath a Christmas tree (the courtyard was filled with snow), and they'd get to keep whatever present they unwrapped assuming the next outed contestant didn't steal it from them.

This weeks contestants were Jen, Mike, Daniele, Dick, and Amber. Dustin was the host.

Prior to the competition going down, Jen very inarticulately told Amber that if she won the competition and removed one of her eviction nominations then she would put up Amber's closest ally, Dustin.

Ten bucks to the first person who tells me what this caused Amber to do. [Hint: Rhymes with "cry".]

Jen also issued the same ultimatum to Joe, only Joe pointed out that he doesn't really have a close ally in the house which would made Jen's threat pretty much pointless.

This led to a whole sequence of drama in the living room and pantry where Dick yelled at Jen some more, and Joe pointed out that Jen's reasoning for putting Dick and Daniele up (to eliminate negativity), was pretty ironic since she just created a lot of negativity with her stupid ultimatums.

Jameka and Zach also had a confrontation that I didn't quite understand, but I'm guessing there's some bad blood between them.

Once the competition finally got underway, Joe was eliminated first. He pulled a slop pass from beneath the tree.

On the second pass Jen was eliminated and she won a red leotard that she would have to wear for the remainder of the week. She was a little too excited about the leotard.

During the third round, Mike left the competition and ended up winning a Big Brother date where he and the house guest of his choice would get to share a gourmet meal in the courtyard alone. I have no clue who he is going to pick since he's probably been shown for about three full minutes in six episodes.

Dick was eliminated next and he won a plasma television that he didn't give a crap about winning.

That left Amber and Daniele. According to Amber she barely pushed the rock so that Daniele would win the POV. Amber picked a pair of handcuffs from beneath the tree. She had to choose someone in the house to be handcuffed to for 24 hours, and ended up choosing Kail because they are both on slop and because they are both moms.

After the competition and working on the assumption that Daniele would use the POV on herself, Eric once again tried to campaign for Jessica on America's behalf. Jen pretty much shut him down at every pass.

Zach then tried to talk Jen into backdooring Joe, although he used the term "backdoor" incorrectly. As far as I know, backdooring involves the HOH intentionally putting up two people up for eviction that they have no intention of getting rid of. Next, a premeditated group of people plays and wins the POV competition, takes one of the potential evictims (TM) off of the chopping block, and the HOH then puts up the true target for eviction.

Just thought I'd spit some Big Brother knowledge at you.

Power of Veto Meeting

As anticipated, Daniele used the POV on herself and Jen ended up putting Joe up for eviction.

I'm actually a little disappointed that Evil Dick or Joe will be the one going home on Thursday. I'd much rather see someone like Jessica, Mike, or Jameka go home as they don't hold my interest nearly as well as the other players. My wife also points out that she wants to see Dick exact revenge of Jen's skank ass - so of the two, I'm hoping Joe ends up going home.

Tonight, America is voting on which contestant Eric should campaign for to have removed from the house

Which contestant is going home?
Evil Dick46 (9.3%)
Joe447 (90.7%)

As long as Dick stay's I'm happy ..

I'd like to comment on mike m comments and provide some feedback (I don't watch After Dark or Live feeds) ...

"They didn't show Dick and Jen talk civilly"

- talking civilly real doesn't matter .. this year has been emotionless, and we know Dick and Jen don't get alone and Dick will rip her up. I do agree that in the episode it seems to come out really quickly.. but it was entertaining.

"they didn't show the Dick and Dani conversations."
- They obvious want to play the anger of them being apart and mid-season they will run a special piece on them re-building their relationship.

"And they really can't, because of time, but it's unfortunate as we don't know Eric at all"
- I've been thinking about this for awhile now and I've noticed too that Eric seems to never be around anytime anything happens in the house. I'm wonder if this is done on purpose to make "America" the player, and they don't want Eric's moves in the house to influence America's choices. I feel bad for Eric, because he looks like a solid BB player and he's really handcuffed by this.

"we think Dick is an Asshole"
I don't think his an asshole at all. I think Jen is the asshole and Dick is the only one with the balls (take that pun) to confront her. He's should be America's player for doing that.

"that everyone is Kosher with Joe basically"
I disagree with this. 2 things are telling that I've seen. 1 is the question from last week's HoH where people said who was most likely to cheat and Joe got all the votes - this shows they don't believe or like him. The second being in tonights show after Jen's threat. Joe says that he's not close to anybody. Sure you have to read between the lines, but it's pretty clear to me.

"and we don't know that a LOT of people want Zach out."
This surprises me as that hasn't been shown, except maybe the Jamika bit from tonight. Why do they want Zach out? Is it because he may win or for something else?

We also don't know that Kail is NUTS! She's been going after Dick like a dog goes after a hot dog!"

Joe was probably the smartest pick Jen could make. I tend to think she stumbled on it because I just don't think she is smart enough to play strategically. Joe is in no alliance and stupidly admitted to her that he isn't close to anyone in the house, so whether he leaves or stays, he really has no one backing him up.

If I had to pick an early winner of BB I would have to say Jameka, simply because I think most people forget she is even in the house. I mean geez, I don't watch the web feeds, but the CBS airings almost never show her and when they do it is usually for a 2 minute shot.

I bet if she hid under a bed for the rest of the show, the house guests would forget she was ever there.

I really hope Joe goes home. Not at all because he's gay, but because he's, well, Joe.

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, but do we know that Nick is a former NFL-er? It says he's a "former pro football player" but from his accent and his lack of skills, I'm thinking it's more likely that he played in the CFL.

you left out the part when everyone is campaigning to jen to put up joe and she walks out of hoh and into the bedroom where nick and dani are then stomps back upstairs and announces that shes putting up nick. a mature response from a mature woman.

I really enjoyed Joe for the first time last night, from him telling Jen how ironic it was that she was stirring up a lot of shit in the house and then nominating Dick/Daniele for that reason and then calling out Zach for being an asshole to Jameka.

Personally, I think that it makes more sense at this stage of the game to eliminate the supposed two-somes (alliances), rather than target unaligned people for eviction. I, however, think Joe is going home, but his vote can be bought down the line, whereas Dick's allegiance will always lie with his daughter.
