"C-SPAN After Dark": The Democrats and the Republicans had a lovely little sleepover to discuss Bush's Iraq policy and gossip about boys. I laughed a little too loudly at Jon's remarks about the Democrat's sad-looking "Let Us Vote" signs because, well, I guess I'm a sucker for font jokes. I'm pathetic like that.John Oliver reviewed the all-night political play and successfully killed me by calling Barack Obama "the Moor" ("Alluring... Dangerously forbidden... And played out"). Oliver looked like he was about to crack as well. The rating system of five "bullets to the back of Lincoln's head" was also funny, in an awful sort of way.
Washington Bureau Chief Aasif Mandvi talked about the Senate and the nature of sacrifice, which, apparently, involves pizza.
The night's guest was Simpsons god, Matt Groening (yes, it's pronounced "graining"). It was good to see Jon genuinely enjoy a movie clip rather than feign shock and interest at some crappy suspense/thriller clip that makes no sense out of context. Groening was lovely and funny, happily talking about the upcoming movie. Jon's remark about the film's wonderful marketing was very true. I mean, the 7-11 makeovers are cool and all, but I don't think it gets better than the Simpsons looking fly in Harper's Bazaar.
Moment of Zen: Amendments with teeth and crappy metaphors.
