Big Brother 8: Episode 7

by JJ Hawkins, posted Jul 20th 2007 1:30AM
Julie Chen, Daniele, and Dick

(S08E07) Somewhere along the way, Big Brother's Julie Chen got stuck with the nickname "Chenbot".

I figured the term of endearment came from her steely cold gaze, her stoic, apathetic delivery, or maybe even those stiff, robotic movements she performs that make bronze sculptures absolutely limber by comparison.

Turns out I missed the most obvious reason. She's actually a robot running on Windows ME.

During tonight's HOH Competition, there was a sequence where the Chenbot ran out of RAM. She was stuck there motionless for a noticeable period of time, yet she was still talking to the contestants.

A swift change of cameras by a quick thinking producer and a ctrl + alt + delete later - she was good as new. Video proof after the jump.

Before that, let's take a look at some of the things that happened in the house leading up to the eviction and HOH competition.

America's Player

For starters, I was completely incorrect on my interpretation of the America's Player rules. I'll admit it. I'm an idiot.

I was under the impression that Eric didn't have to comply with every decision the voting audience agreed on. As it turns out, he pretty much doesn't have a choice as evidenced by his being forced to vote for Joe later in the show. This will get really interesting if Eric ever wins HOH.

Despite not having a say in the matter, Eric seemed relatively happy with America's choice, and figured it was going to be a "slam dunk".

Dick and Kail seemed to be sharing some quality time together on the hammock, but it actually turned out to be the beginnings of a falling out between the two of them.

Dick called out Kail's alliance with Mike, Kail assured Dick that she was voting to keep him in the house, and then her true intentions immediately came out when she went up to the HOH room and started campaigning hard to get Dick voted off tonight.

Her crazy ass even tried to get Daniele to vote against her dad citing the fact that Daniele would enjoy this experience much more without the awkwardness of having her estranged father in the house.

Lucky for Evil, Daniele was wise enough to see through the bullshoot spewing from Kail's mouth, and she ended up telling her dad about Kail's plot to get rid of him.

Dick bit his tongue for the sake of his daughter, but eventually confronted Kail about her dishonest, conniving method of trying to get him out of the house. The other house guests who got caught in the crossfire all looked extremely uncomfortable to be witnessing the battle. Ultimately, I think this is going to end up doing some harm to Kail's reputation.

Next, during one of those live updates when Julie checks in on the contestants prior to eviction, Julie told Jen that she certainly took the "Uni" out of unitard (referring to Jen's efforts to liven up her outfit). Jen might have taken the "Uni" out, but she most definitely left in the "tard".

The way she prances around in that thing is truly nauseating and very much on the immature side. It's like her mental development ceased to progress after the 5th grade. She's like Robin Williams in that atrocious movie Jack, only better looking and infinitely more annoying - which is remarkable because Robin Williams is pretty damn annoying.

Spotlight - Joe and Dustin

Joe and Dustin

Tonight we got to meet Nate, the lover that came into the picture when Dustin and Joe's relationship went on the fritz. He didn't have too much to say other than the fact that he was never in love with Joe and that Joe cannot be trusted.

We then got to watch Dustin deliver the following speech when Joe was begging for his vote.

"The way that you've played this game in this house does reflect the way that you played the game of life. You have slandered my name, and you have gone the wrong way to earn my trust, and during the past 16 days in this house you have not proven to me that you are worth my vote. So your manipulation brought you to this point. I will not be voting to keep you in this house."

I'm not even going to bother writing down Joe's response because this battle of words was tilted so heavily in Dustin's favor. Joe dug his own grave on day one with the Gonorrhea comment. It's time for him to leave.

Eviction

This is how the voting played out:

Dustin - Voted to evict Joe and that's that.
Daniele - Voted to save her daddy.
Eric - He didn't have a choice. He picked Joe and pointed out that you can't spell America without "Eric". How clever.
Amber - Votes to evict Joe. Amazingly does not shed a single tear.
Kail - Voted for Dick. No surprise here.
Jameka - Voted to evict Joe.
Mike - Voted against his alliance with Kail and picks Joe to go.
Nick - Pulls a Mike and voted to get rid of Joe. It's tough to vote out your future father-in-law. I empathize Nick.
Jessica - Voted to get a bed all to herself.
Zach - Suffers from premature evictulation (TM). He overzealously voted to evict Joe before Julie Chen even asked him who he wanted to vote for. I'm sure the ladies love Zach.

By a vote of 9-1 Joe is given the heave ho.

Head of Household Competition - Getting Schooled

The HOH competition was of the ask a question variety. Julie asked the contestants a true and false question about history, geography, and math as it pertained to their time in the Big Brother house. Contestants who answered incorrectly were eliminated.

The questions were:

  • After finding out she was evicted one of the first things Carol said was "fabulous." True.
  • In the Butter Me Up competition when you add up all the butter collected by both teams the total was 117 lbs. False the answer was 114 lbs.
  • The animal topiaries found in the backyard are based on The Garden of Eden Sculptures by Michaelangelo. False.
  • When Jen won the second HOH competition she said, "Please don't steal this from me. I really would be sad." False.
  • When you add up all the bites of pie in the name that pie comp. there were more than 45 bites. True.
  • When Jen won the red unitard, she jumped up and down and said, "Thank you Santa." False.
Tiebreaker between Daniele, Dick, and Mike.
  • From the moment she opened her present in the Cut Throat Christmas competition how long has Jen had the unitard (to the nearest hour).
Evil Dick won the HOH competition, and I was absolutely thrilled. I can't wait to see what level of evil he unleashes on Kail and Jen. I'm pretty sure he has a vindictive nature, and I'll be shocked if he doesn't put the both of them up for eviction next week.

As promised, witness the Chenbot in action.

Pick one contestant you're sure Dick will put up for eviction.
Jameka1 (0.2%)
Kail291 (55.4%)
Dustin1 (0.2%)
Daniele1 (0.2%)
Nick1 (0.2%)
Jen214 (40.8%)
Jessica7 (1.3%)
Mike2 (0.4%)
Zach4 (0.8%)

Great observations, J.J. I was relieved when someone else noticed the Chenbot, talking without moving her mouth moment. And, wouldn't you think that by SEASON 8 !! she would have developed some animation? But no.....

Yes, the ChenBot is quite an interesting thing.

Julie Chen has a Kim Kardashian-like plasticness about her. And from what I have seen, pre-plastic surgery, both didn't exactly rate high in the looks department.

But first . . .

JJ - Just a note, Evel Dick spells it with an E, not an I. Not sure if you're aware...

I cannot believe that anyone thought Dustin wasn't completely justified in his "speech" to Joe. Joe treated him like crap and told the other HG's lies about him for 16 days and then wants to "open up" when he's clamoring for votes. I thought Dustin was brilliant! He was very calm and mature and just told Joe the way it really is. Joe got all bitchy afterwards and basically threw Dustin out of the hammock when he got up. That boy has got some MAJOR growing up to do!!

Glad Joe's gone, glad Dick is HoH. It couldn't have worked out better! Kail needs to go because she is turning into the new Maggie. Only difference is she doesn't have a Cappy to avenge. Zach is the real mastermind of the Mrs. Robinson Alliance, but Zach has be alienating everyone in the house lately, so his days may be numbered as well. I wonder if Jen will continue to wear her 'tard until she's evicted? And I don't think Dustin was grandstanding at all. He was just telling Joe that coming to him to bury the hatchet AFTER he's put on the block was just a big waste of time because he'd had 16 days to try to make things better between them and he chose to continue to lie and manipulate everyone into thinking Dustin was a piece of trash. Well, the real trash was taken out this time!

I think the point where Joe dug his own grave was when Jen threatened anyone who tried to bump her in the veto competition with putting one of their friends up as revenge. Joe responded by saying "go ahead" he had no one close to him in the house. Dumb move letting everyone know that you had no alliance and therefore no one to fight for you.

Brilliant remark on the "uni" "tard".

I'm becoming an evil fan. His personality may not be the best for strategic purposes, but from what I only see on the CBS airings, he is real and hasn't lied yet.

I think it is pretty evident that Kail was never really heading that alliance, but rather, Zach is the brains behind that outfit. I admire the strategy he is using and am looking forward to see how far it goes.

JJ, I disagree with your comments about Dustin. That little speech was grandstanding at its best. Dustin, as Joe rightly pointed out, just wanted to get his final digs in before Joe left, and thankfully Joe called him out on it. For all of his loudness, pot-stirring, or whatever, Joe would have been a better person to keep in the house, strategically speaking.

Dick is always going to be loyal to Daniele, no matter what and he has struck some kind of relationship with Amber. If they had taken Dick out of the game, it would have limited the number of people Daniele could have turned to. Since she keeps winning POV, she would have been the candidate for backdooring once the number dwindled to nine (one HOH, two nominees, five votes, one backdoor victim).

Where Joe went wrong was not pointing this out to Dustin and also sowing seeds of doubt about Amber. Amber's loyalty is going to be tested down the line because of her closeness to both Dustin and Dick and who's to say she'll stay loyal to either of them.

And, one more thing, was it just me, or did Joe's good-bye speeches all seem a little harsh?

I was so happy that Joe was ousted and Dick got HOH. That was exactly how I wanted it to go. From reading the live updates from the wonderful Jackie & watching the show, Dick is not what he is portrayed on the shows weekly. I can see in some of the snipets that he is just a upfront person. Yes, he causes moments of unease when he confronts someone but I think those present can tell that he isn't being nasty. He's putting the truth out there & confronting them with it. He's not making up stories, manipulating or lying - he's telling it like it is.

I'm all for Evel Dick. He's personality is so much like my own. No BS - He is what he is.

this was a great show because i dont like kail
but as big brother as shown in the past-HOH never puts up who you think they should
he will probably realize that jen is a waste of time to put up and/or he could cut a deal with kail
not that i trust kail, but this seems to happen over and over again on Big Bro
