ABC launches HD online video player

ABC HD
Tired of squinting at your PC to watch online video. ABC has updated its online video player to support high definition (720p) video playback.

Right now there's not a huge selection of content available in high definition. You can watch a whopping one episode each of Desparate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Lost, or Ugly Betty at resolutions up to 1300x770.

You'll need a 2Mbps or faster internet connection, and even then you're not guaranteed crystal-clear playback. Just because the player supports HDTV resolutions doesn't really mean you're going to get HD quality over the internet. The faster your internet connection and the better your computer's specs (CPU, Graphics card etc), the better your results will likely be.

The player sucks axx. Stucks after commercials all the time and user interface is much inferior than similar services from Google Video or Netflix Online. I would never watch another ABC online episode again.

I suppose that, like all the other "free" online content out there, this won't be available to Canadian viewers (or other countries) even though we get the shows on both Canadian and American networks.

The ads are annoying but everything else is sharp.

This is very nice, though I tested Lost and the quality didn't look as great as I've watched on my tv, but it's certainty much better than what they were offering before

and while ABC does support OS X unlike some other networks or video providers (cough*netflix*cough), it would be very nice if it worked in something other than Safari or Firefox as I'm not much of a fan of either of them (Firefox is great on Windows, it totally sucks on OS X).
