It's TV Squad's guide to the 2007-08 fall premiere dates

by Richard Keller, posted Jul 25th 2007 11:05AM

Pushing Daisies -- one of the new shows on the 2007-08 fall scheduleBefore beginning this post on premiere dates for the upcoming 2007-08 fall television season I want to mention a few shows that you won't be seeing on the list. They are: Arrested Development, Charmed, Joey, Everwood, Gilmore Girls, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Reba, 7th Heaven, Kidnapped, Vanished, and Standoff. Why, pray tell, am I not including these programs on the list? Because they've all been CANCELED!!! Face it, Everwood is not coming back in any way, shape or form. Let's get past that and move on!

What you will be seeing are the premiere dates for Heroes, Reaper, Bionic Woman, America's Next Top Model, Bones, and Survivor. At posting time the dates for ABC's season premieres had not been given out; therefore, they will not appear on the list. Of course, we could just make up the premiere dates for Samantha Who?, Pushing Daisies and According to Jim, but that wouldn't be very professional of us, would it? That's okay, because ABC's season doesn't really start until Lost begins airing anyway.

Mind you, these are fall premieres. Shows like Jericho, 24, American Idol, Medium and Law & Order take their bows later in the season. So, with a grand flourish and a 21-gun-salute, we present to you your new 2007-08 fall television season!

UPDATE: Just as this post was going out ABC released the premiere dates for the new fall season. Thusly, they have been added. Except for Boston Legal. I have now idea when that show is going to premiere.

UPDATE 2: Information for Boston Legal has been added, as well as date changes for Bones, Anchorwoman, Kitchen Nightmares and Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?

UPDATE 3: Updates for SciFi Channel premiere dates have been added.

"America's Funniest Home Videos (ABC) -- Shouldn't the show be called America's Funnites Home DVDs to stay with the times?"

first- you guys misspelled "Funnites"

second- they should not change the name because a video can be a DVD. they would only need to change it if it were "America's Funniest Home VHS's"

I don't get TV anymore- used to be a time when the "Season" was 3 months long. There were usually two main seasons, Spring and Fall- Fall being the biggest- and they were really hard to miss, as they were actively promoted with title of show, sometimes with brief synopses, clips, and the date and time. Now you never know what is a new show anymore, as so few seem to last a full season anymore. Not only that, but different networks seem to take pride in starting their seasons in the middle, or randomly juggle the programs in order to better conceal them from people- especially the good ones, like the "The Simple Life", or "Mid-sized Brother", or "Dancing with Washed-Up Nearly-Famous Character Actors", "American Idiot, er...Idol" or "Survivor Eleventeen"...;)

Message to ALL the networks- Quit jerking us around. Give us quality programming and a schedule we can count on. One week a program is on, the next week it's canceled. We viewers are never given a chance to build loyalty to a program anymore, if we do, we are handsomely rewarded with a hard slap in the face midseason as our shows are replaced with yet another "reality show" or "exciting and innovative crime drama". Puhleeeease. Trying to make sense of the schedule changes is like watching an octopus have a grand-mal seizure! Times and shows flailing about, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason. Please, give us some consistency! If you put out a really bad show, live with your mistake for the rest of the season, THEN cancel it! Don't just replace it with a rerun or another cranked-out blatant rip-off of some other show.

Correction: 'Are you smarter than a 5th grader' (Fox) premieres on August 30th. Isabelle's post that is linked to above has that date, as does Orlando Sentinel & starnewsonline.com.

Links to sources:

For some odd reason, Fox.com itself does not seem to have published (or at least make it easy to find) premiere dates for it's own shows.
