The Daily Show: July 24, 2007
The CNN/YouTube-sponsored Democratic debate was hardcore. And extreme. And awesome. Actually, it was exactly like every other debate, except with the addition of a massive monitor with YouTube folks asking questions. I liked Jon's analysis of screen-sizes because I guess I'm the kind of person that can appreciate talk about screen-sizes (what a sad, sad thing to admit). Did I detect a little bitterness in Jon's voice when he touched on why he's not on YouTube?"Indecision v.2.008": Senior Political Reporter Jason Jones, as a reporter, talked about feeling threatened by YouTube. Yesterday, right before The Daily Show came on at 11:00, there was a brief ad for Jones' scooter report. It didn't air last night, so I thought it had been bumped to this episode. It's been a while since we've seen a fun field report... I was a little disappointed that they didn't air it because I thought it looked promising. Tomorrow, maybe?
"Political Trendspotting with Demetri Martin John Oliver": From the initial side angle, I honestly thought, "Wow. Demetri looks a lot taller". Yes, John Oliver's Demetri Martin get-up managed to fool me for a few seconds. I guess it was really all in the hair. His report with the alcohol-loving, politically-concerned youths was funny, but the best -- THE BEST -- part was the correspondent ottoman-humping. Good lord. My stomach couldn't handle it, both because I was laughing so hard and because there was too much humping going on. I noticed that there was no Dan Bakkedahl? I mean, not like I wanted to see him demonstrate his grinding techniques on furniture, but we haven't seen him do much lately, have we? Even before the two week break? Hmm...
Oh, and if you have no idea what the ottoman-humping is about, search "ottoman humping" on YouTube. Actually, forget that, it's probably better if you just watch this reply video instead because A) it has fun Benny Hill music and B) it's been sped up so you don't have to sit through, like, six minutes of depressingly awkward teenage boys with no girlfriends.
The night's guest was Robert Pallitto, author of Presidential Secrecy and the Law. The interview focused mainly on, um, presidential secrecy and the law. That round of applause was pathetic.
Jon/Stephen: Stephen Colbert was doing okay with some bad animal jokes, and then he completely and totally broke character. Honestly, he's always so strongly in-character, I love it when he breaks down and starts laughing. Moment of Zen: Some guy on YouTube was proud to show off the baby he had with the 2nd Amendment.
