The Simpsons is huge money for 7-Eleven

by Anna Johns, posted Jul 26th 2007 3:20PM
the simpsons movie7-Eleven stores are cleaning up on merchandising for The Simpsons Movie, which hits theaters on Friday. Since the beginning of this month, the convenience store chain has been selling millions of Simpsons items such as KrustyO's, Buzz Cola, Squishees, Radioactive Man comics, and Sprinklicious doughnuts. And 12 of its outlets have actually been transformed into Kwik-E-Marts, just like on the show.

The Simpsons merch, by the numbers:
  • 960,000 cans of Buzz Cola
  • 1.1 million Squishees
  • 880,400 Sprinklicious doughnuts
  • More than 3.4 million units of Simpsons swag
I joined the mass consumerism stampede and bought KrustyO's, Buzz Cola, a comic, and a Squishee (man, those things are pure sugar - blech!). I think it might've been the first time I ever went into a 7-Eleven. What did you buy?

There are no 7-Elevens here in Greenville, SC. Th "God Squad" drove them out. :-(

I bought a WooHoo! Blue Vanilla Squishee, which was very good, and it came in a neat plastic Simpsons collector cup. I also got one of those Sprinkelicous donuts, which tasted like a regular donut, but had this bright neon pick icing, real cartoony. I'd like to go back and get some of the merchandise, a shirt or something.

How can you pass up a deal like three for the price of three?

I bought my daughter's first Squishee at our 7-11. I had one too...did not get collector cups or other stuff. Neat idea...and I'm ok with it...what a concept...

We were in LA three weeks ago (we live in AZ where there are no 7-11s). I looked online and found we weren't too far from one of the Kwik-E-Marts (the Burbank one) so we swung by on our way home. They had a security guy regulating the number of people in the store to about 15 at a time, and there was no line when we got there, but by the time we got in, got our stuff and got out there was about 20 people complaining out front. I got a Squishee and a box of four donuts (they had four baker's racks full). They were out of Buzz and Krusty-O's, though. On our way through San Diego, I scored a 6 pack of Buzz and the Krusty-O's, both of which were the last in that store, and then grabbed another Squishy in El Centro. Both were the collectible plastic cups.

My friend and I spent one Friday driving up to Seattle from Portland to visit one of the converted Kwik-E-Marts. I spent at least $100 on a couple of comics, two six packs of Buzz Cola and two boxes of Krusty O's. Plus I got a Kwik-E-Mart hat, the collectible cups and straws and a Homer Tshirt and Duffman Bobblehead. I think I may have a problem.

Tough to say how much (other than the comic book) was incremental. Every slurpee they sold was counted as a squishee, so no way to tell if that was more than the usual amount.
