New eps of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader in September

jeff foxworthyAre You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader kicks off its second season next month with four one-hour episodes and a two-hour season premiere.

The premiere airs Thursday, September 6 at 8:00 p.m., followed by a new episode every Thursday, save for one episode airing on Friday, October 5.

I've only watched a few episodes of this series, but I can only take so many minutes of a yammering jackass behaving in a manner that proves he's not only less smart than a fifth grader, he's also vastly more immature.

I know the producers want people on the show who have lots of energy, but it often reaches a point where I'd rather turn off my TV and just stare at a blank screen than listen to Henry from Sheboygan bellow out facts about the metric system like some drunken fan at a baseball game.

On the other hand, I do think Foxworthy is a good host, mostly because of his comfort and ease around the children. A kid can make even the most seasoned TV host nervous, but Foxworthy knows how to handle them. However, he'll have a whole new group of children to contend with next season, as the old group leave the show and some new blood is brought in. I assume the kids from the first season will be sold into slavery, but that's just my guess.

Someone I know attended a taping a few weeks back, and the contestant was a 5th grade teacher, and her 5th grader daughter was on the 'panel'...

I take slight offense at that comment. I have daughters who are 5th and 6th graders and we watch the show together with my husband (both of us are rather educated and intelligent). It's kind of fun remembering what we may have forgotten (but we have about a 98% correct answer rate)

It's a fun and dorky show. Foxworthy draws the contestant out more than he should before revealing the answer, and the kids *definitely* need changing out, but it's a guilty television pleasure.... much in the same way some people regard reality shows (we generally avoid them).

The typical audience of this show are mostly people who have the intelligence of a 5th grader, so it is perfect that it is being renewed.
