"The Rummy Returns" (lawlz): Old Donald Rumsfeld was called in for questioning about the Pat Tillman case. It was strange... I had a fleeting thought of, "I thought Rummy was dead" when he popped up on screen. I have no idea why that happened. Maybe I subconsciously put Rumsfeld on my mental Colbert Report-inspired "Dead to Me" list when he left. Anyway, the old man is still on his game, beautifully denying things left and right. He's got it down to a science, all right. By the way, I wonder how he feels about Comedy Central's Lil' Bush, in which Iggy Pop voices Lil' Rummy. I'd be pretty excited if someone like Iggy Pop played a cartoon take on me, even if it was for satirical purposes. "I Now Pronounce You Dick & Larry" (Warning: That article includes a picture of Cheney breaking from his trademark smirk into a full grin, and it's quite scary): Dick Cheney had a heart to heart with Larry King during his recent television interview. That footage from the Situation Room was quite a find. I mean, not that it was particularly earth-shattering, but I was blown away that TDS managed to find such a seemingly minor clip. Those poor video vault interns, how exhausted they must be.
Larry Wilmore talked about the US's falling housing market, and it was extra-funny because Wilmore's black, I guess. Honestly, I didn't totally get that part (or the bit about saying "sub-prime" is pretty much the same as the "n-word"), but I quite liked the crappy commercials. Motorcycles immediately make everything cool, obviously, and that includes loans. By the way, Oprah is, like, the ultimate co-signer. Who needs good credit when you've got Oprah on your side?
The night's guest was Jed Babbin, author of In The Words of Our Enemies. Damn, that joke about the Belgians and the French garnered a surprising number of groans. The interview was pretty informative... Babbin attempted to throw in his own jokes every once in a while but it was pretty hit and miss. Sometimes it's best if the guest just laughs and nods at whatever Jon says.
Jon/Stephen: Stephen Colbert tried to do the toss in the style of a Homeric epic... and then a Nantucket limerick. Moment of Zen: Dick Cheney hates polls. Well, he does now, anyway.
