The Daily Show: August 8, 2007

Joe BidenBarry Bonds finally hit that 756. The media has already milked that coverage cow dry. Even Daily Show couldn't do anything exciting with the news. Senior Correspondent Rob Riggle then talked about his random adventure, full of coyotes and stuff. I didn't really know what he was talking about, actually. Riggle, you're a crazy one.

"Mess O' Potamia": The US can't find nearly 200,000 weapons given to Iraqi security. Loads of oil, weapons, and money have simply "vanished" in the past few years. Well, this goodness just writes itself, doesn't it?

"The Henry Starts Here": Whoa-ho-ho! Some fresh blood in the Daily Show cast!... Some old, fresh blood. Buck Henry is a new contributor, I guess. That definitely came out of nowhere. Henry talked about Rupert Murdoch's new role as daddy to Dow Jones. I admired his snazzy sense of style and his comedic timing, but I don't know if I was just being more forgiving 'cause he's old. In an attempt to sort out that problem, I tried imagining Rob Riggle or Jason Jones saying his words, but I lost my concentration when I saw the picture of Murdoch in a thong.

The night's guest was Joe Biden, author of Promises to Keep: On Life and Politics and, oh yeah, he's also a presidential candidate. I guess Biden doesn't watch television very much because everyone knows that appearing on Daily Show is a kiss of death for any candidate. I liked Biden's ideas for single-subject debates. Man, that would be so much easier to sit through. Overall, the interview was okay, I suppose. It didn't really make me feel any differently about Biden. I was, however, quite surprised that he made that Tulane joke.

Moment of Zen: Barry Bonds got a little snippy.

Buck Henry reminded me of a much older John Hodgman almost to the point where I thought it was just Hodgman wearing a mask.

I was infuriated by Senator Biden's "joke" regarding Tulane being underwater. We are down here struggling for every tourist nickel we can get and he is making wisecracks!! The sad part is a lot of people still think New Orleans is underwater and jokes like Senator Biden's are not welcome.

I called his office yesterday after first hearing of this and the lady who answered the phone actually lied to me and said that it was "John Daily" who claimed Tulane was underwater. I called his office again today and the lady who answered this time was actually from New Orleans and understod my outrage and concern, and said she would convey my message to the Senator.
