Patinkin returning to Criminal Minds, for a limited time only!

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 14th 2007 1:25PM

Mandy PatinkinThis is becoming more of a soap opera than that whole "who is going to replace Rosie O'Donnell on The View?" stuff.

We reported yesterday that Joe Mantegna is going to replace Mandy Patinkin on Criminal Minds (Patinkin didn't want to return to the show). Now Michael Ausiello over at TVGuide.com reports that Patinkin will in fact return to the show...for one epsiode, to explain what happened to his character.

The interesting part about all this? He'll be in only one scene, and the scene will pretty much be solo, since no one else (according to Ausiello's sources) on the show wants to work with him again. The episode will air on October 3.

"Oh Mandy...well you came and you gave without taking..."

the scene required only one actor, and that was Mandy Patinkin, as far as I know, the rest of the crew were not needed, but they have no problems working with Mandy.

One of the writers of the song "Brandy" was in a rehab facility in England and spoke of the song and it was from those discussions that the origin of the song came about.
Even in Wiki you see Citation needed after it says what it's about.

Chester -

You are incorrect on this one. Not all music in the 70s was about drugs (although quite a lot seemed to be).

The song "Mandy" was originally called "Brandy", but was changed because of the Looking Glass single, "Brandy (you're a fine girl)"

Next thing, you will be telling us that "Puff the magic dragon" was about smoking marijuana - (it wasn't, althouth that was a fun joke when we were kids):

(I use the wikipedia links because it is easier than citing a bunch of sources).

As for the Patinkin variety of Mandy, the guy is just nuts (and seems to be a prima donna from what I have been reading). I say, good riddance to bad rubbish. However, couldn't they find someone better than Joe Montegna? His acting delivery seems to me to always come across flat and unemotional, like he is reading it directly off the script and not putting anything into it (just my opinion).

The song "Mandy" is actually about the drug: -- methaqualone compound Mandrax
Mandy is the street name.
Barry Manilow didn't know that at the time he recorded the song!

I wonder whom he called a faggot... or better what he said that can't be remedied with a brief visit in "rehab".

*grumble*

it was already known he'd come back for one episode, but this doesn't sound too good.

coming from the writers i'd be fine, but from the actors... let's just hope writers will be more professional and not let their anger hurt the show!

I wonder if they will ever play that episode they pulled last season due to the Virgina Tech shootings.
