James Marsters joins Without a Trace

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Aug 15th 2007 1:20PM
James MarstersJames Marsters' official website confirms that the actor is joining CBS' hit series Without a Trace. Marsters, who is best known for portraying Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has been guesting on various TV series and acting in movies in the past years. Most notably, Marsters has impersonated Professor Milton Fine, also known as Brainiac, in a few episodes of The CW's Smallville.

Slight Without a Trace spoilers after the jump!

On Without a Trace, Marsters is set to play Detective Mars (not related to Veronica Mars). The character is described on the actor's site as an "attractive in a real way, a bright full-of-life personality, charming, possibly from around the Washington DC area, so could have a slight southern accent, [man]. Mars is a police detective who has started to investigate what seems to be a ring of human trafficking. He has information our FBI team is interested in and comes to New York to speak to Vivian about what he knows. Eventually he will become part of a task force to deal with human trafficking."

The role is said to be recurring. However, TV Guide's Michael Ausiello claims that Detective Mars could become a regular character.

This is awesome news! Now, I'll have to start watching WaT again, I stopped in the third season, I think.
I'm really glad JM is back on tv. I missed him.

Bash: What Ian did was okay. I was notified of my typos (I haven't been able to properly spell his last name since his Buffy days!) and corrected them :D

Thanks to both of you!

That's Marsters, not Masters. You wrote Masters twice in the article. Just letting you know!

Terrific news! I liked Spike's snarkiness; I can't wait to see what he does with this role. I kind of lost interest in 'Without A Trace' last year, for some reason. Adding Marsters to the cast will pull me back.

Last month, I had spoken with friends about how there were three people I wanted to see back on a (good) regular television show (not mini-series) because they were great actors:

Joe Mantegna

Nathan Fillion

James Marsters
