Plans change for third High School Musical

by Adam Finley, posted Aug 27th 2007 3:02PM

high school musicalDisney Channel's popular High School Musical series of TV movies will hit theaters for its third installment, but don't expect a Halloween-themed movie as reported earlier. According to TV Guide, the Halloween idea was scrapped and instead the feature film will focus on senior year and the lives of students Sharplay, Troy, Gabriella, Ryan, Chad and Taylor.

The first High School Movie hit the Disney Channel in January of last year and was a gigantic success. The second installment, aptly tilted High School Musical 2, debuted on the channel this month. The TV movies also inspired a professional touring stage production that launched this year. There is no word yet on when the third installment would hit theaters, and none of the actors involved with the TV movie have signed on for the movie just yet.

Earlier, I was kind of hoping "Halloween-themed" actually meant "inspired by the John Carpenter movie, Halloween." I know Rob Zombie has a remake coming out, but I think an R-rated, musical splatterfest in which all of the students are systematically gutted by a silent killer would be quite entertaining. Probably not very "Disney," but whatever.

I have to agree I dont care too much for the actual story of the movies, I just only care about the soundtrack. Zac Efron better have a hit single again, I cant wait!!!!

I think they should finish the trilogy of High School Musical, then make College Musical a movie. :)

"Sharpay", pronounced like the dog but not spelled that way. I believe there's even a joke in the movie to that effect.

As far as my 5 and 3 yr olds are concerned, "High School Musical" could be a rock group. They are way more interested in the soundtrack than the actual movie, probably since they can listen to the soundtrack outside or in the car, whereas the movie you have to sit down and pay attention to.
