Seven favorite TV props

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 29th 2007 1:06PM

Dick Van Dyke Show logoWhitney Matheson has an interesting topic over at the Pop Candy blog. She lists her 10 favorite props from the movies, and includes some items like Indy's hat from the Raiders of the Lost Ark movies, Darth Vader's light saber, and many items from Steve Martin's The Jerk. This got me thinking, what props from TV shows would I like to own? I have a few from Ed, including a name plate from the courtroom and a drinking bird, but I'd like more. My list is below, in no particular order.

Anything from The Dick Van Dyke Show: In particular, the typewriter in the office or anything from the Petrie's kitchen. Or maybe the ottoman Rob trips over!

The napkin Bartlet gave Leo on The West Wing: Not only was it used beautifully in the episode that it was introduced, it also plays a huge part in the series finale, after John Spencer had died. I'd frame it, and it would probably be the one thing I'd save if I ever had a fire.

The Fusilli Jerry from Seinfeld: This would look great on my book shelf. I know that at the end of the episode it ends up in Frank Costanza's ass, but I'm going to assume they didn't really put it up there.

A ring from Magnum, P.I.: The ones that Magnum, Rick, and T.C. wore. I'm not a ring guy, but this would be cool to own (I mean an original - they sell replicas; a friend of mine has one).

Crow or Tom Servo from Mystery Science Theater 3000: Because they would look cool sitting on my sofa, watching TV with me.

Johnny's desk and/or microphone from The Tonight Show: So I could actually work at the desk that Johnny hosted from all those years. Plus, I could put on my own talk show in my living room.

The orbs from The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.: Wouldn't it be great to have these around your apartment?

This wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. What are some TV props you'd like to own?

I know a guy who owned the Jeannie bottle - he's an opera singer who bought it off ebay some years ago, and he used it as a prop in a production of Donizetti's comic opera, The Elixir of Love.

From NewsRadio:
The "On The Air" sign,
Bill McNeal's (Phil Hartman) Headphones
The Coffee Machine with a WNYX mug to go along with it and I don't know what I'd do with it, but the door to Dave's office. Hell, I'll take the fridge from the break room too.

Oh, wow. I can name tons, but seven main ones are a copy of The Lone Gunmen newspaper, Mal's coat, Kyle XY's bathtub, Charlie's DriveShaft ring, a pair of Tobias' cutoffs, a Heroes painting, and the Big Ear of Corn from All That.

Oh man, someone beat me to Sonic Screwdriver. Guess I'll have to settle for psychic paper.

I can't believe nobody's said Jayne's hat! Or his big-ass gun. Or Mal's duster.

A Buffy stake would be cool.

How about The Walker Texas Ranger Lever from Conan O'Brien?
