Old non-news: Kevin Smith Battlestar Galactica episode a no-go

by Keith McDuffee, posted Aug 31st 2007 1:12PM
kevin smithI know, I know. It's old news to most of you die hard BSG fans, but in case you haven't heard, Kevin Smith is no longer going to be directing an episode of Battlestar Galactica as we mentioned earlier.

The initial news we got was via a message board post left on Sci-Fi's forums by the wife of executive producer and creator Ron Moore (thanks commenter Akbar!) Given that there were some people less than thrilled to hear of Smith's involvement with the show, I wanted to get confirmation myself first in case of shenanigans, thus the wait. Unfortunately my contacts couldn't get official word themselves, most likely because even Moore himself has come out to say it's not that big of news, something that "only registers on message boards."

UPDATE: Smith talks about it on his own blog.

I have to wonder, though -- what would a Kevin Smith directed episode of Galactica look like? Would he somehow throw his own brand of humor in there, or would he really take a stab at an episode true to what we're used to from this series? Would he, gulp, cameo? Would Jay Mewes be the last Cylon? Any thoughts, readers?

Mayday, Mayday!
I read somewhere that there's talk of splitting season four in half, so that it continues into 2009! (Patriot Resource) Oh frak, say it ain't so TV Squad! I do not want to wait that long for the conclusion.

Thank goodness. I don't think I could have taken BSG as seriously as I usually do if they'd actually gone through with this. Kevin Smith should stick with his schtick and leave my shows alone.

It would have been good. Anybody else remember the Tarantino-directed episode of Alias?

You are just jealous bsgfan ;)

Christian C, glad you can speak for everyone. Not everyone is tired of Kevin Smith and his take on things.

It is too bad. I would have loved to see a fellow geek get to direct an episode.

As Kevin said on his blog, I don't think it would be that different. I'm sure he would manage to work some part of himself in there, but the dude is a big fan of the show and wouldn't want to mess it up. Seeing as how he wasn't writing the episode, I don't think it would be a huge difference from other episodes.

bd, that joke is so played out. Watch Clerks II or any movie after Clerks, for that matter.
