Eureka: Sight Unseen

Jack finds out that he can move things with his mind... er that he's turning invisible
(S02E09) The fresh takes on classic Science Fiction plots has to be one of my favorite things about Eureka. Invisibility is an absolute classic. Solving the invisible man problem is a bit glossed over, but everything else was baked to simmering SciFi perfection.

With the exception of the quickly glossed over solution to invisibility, the show was a shining example of everything that Eureka is great at. Characters were stepping out of their bounds left and right, secrets were finally exposed and Zoe even got kissed.

I felt for Zoe when her car was smashed by the invisible man. For any teenager, that first accident is always a trial. I was surprised that she told her dad as soon as she did. Personally, I'd have waited until after school at the very least. I know I did when I had mine.

Henry's sub-plot got some major development time. We found out just what the device was, and now that Stark's involved, things will probably get even more interesting. I'm not quite sure just why Stark and Henry are so concerned about Jack getting involved. Perhaps they both have more to hide?

I was a bit disappointed in the problem resolution. I watched it again just to be sure, but the dialog just needed some work. It just didn't flow as well as it could have.

It was refreshing to see Carter finally have a new love interest. I honestly thought she'd end up being guilty for a bit. I'd say that both Jack and Zoe were due for some fresh relationships. This was one of the best shows of the season, and I hope things keep on getting better.

Will Jacks new romance continue?

Where is Taggart? I think Frewer is on a Canadian series, so there may be a scheduling conflict, but they could at least throw off a line explaining that he's off hunting something. It seems disrespectful of the audience to have a character who should logically be part of an episode absent without explanation. Still one of my favorite shows! (and I do want Carter and Allison to wind up together).

I think that this episode was ok. I thought that the invisibility scene with the car was handled kinda cheaply. But i really like Zoey's new boyfriend. His hair is so nuts! I just looked him up. His name is Vanya Asher. Yay new characters.

I have to say that this episode was pretty good, other than the hacked together solution, other than the love plots. Don't get me wrong, I think the two relationships could work out well, but why the hell did they have to have them meet their love interest and progress to date/kissing level in one episode. Haven't the writers ever heard of something called slow and steady progression toward a storyline? The speed of the two sets of attractions just made the situations awkward, and unusually badly written, compared to Eureka's usual high level of writing (I mean, "you can't see what's right in front of you. Like what? Like me" was just stupid. It wouldn't have been such a deal if the two characters had gotten to know each other over at least 2 episodes, but they just met the day before, right?) Carter's love interest was handled a little better, but it still felt so weird that we had never seen this character before and she was blatantly flirting with him, and then they go on a date?! At least with that relationship, we can say that they likely knew each other for a while, but Zoe didn't even know her new boyfriend existed until the day before she kissed him! And I'm sorry, but he wasn't that charming that somebody like Zoe would be swept off her feet like that.

I don't know, it was all so weird. It was like Scifi told Eureka's showrunner's that they hadn't had enough romance this season, and they needed to step it up immediately. It sort of feels like when Carter and Jack (the other Carter) got together on SG1, with the major difference that we at least knew these people knew each other really well, and the actors had so much better chemistry than Carter and Zoe did with these new romance interests they brought on Eureka.

Grover-

The invisibility was progressive. His arm was the first part effected because that was the one he cut on the car. It just happened to disappear at that point.

Eric J-

Invisibility as well as miniaturization as well as some other things were made illegal in an international treaty after 9/11 was how they explained it on the show.

Will-

They explained on the show that if Jack were to investigate Kim's death as a homicide, then her lab would be a federal crime scene thereby cutting Henry off from her lab and Stark off from her data on the artifact.

I like the new characters but that also the problem I have with this great series. People just disappeared but I think its because of the budget. I more important that the SFX look better than the crappy movies they show.

Callie? She's cute. I approve.

I'm in favor of the new love interest for Carter. But I do have to wonder, why was invisibility research illegal? Was it an international treaty of some kind? And does that mean there's an ex-Soviet Eureka falling apart somewhere in Siberia?

I'm so glad they finally gave Jack a love interest. I orignially wanted him to pair up with Allison, but not anymore.

The initial flirting between Jack and Callie was sweet.

I really like the character of Callie; nice to see that she wasn't cast as some impossible beauty. She looks... well, the best word I can think of is "real".

I'm just worried that she'll be some kind of sacrificial lamb in a future storyline. The "Bonanza" curse will strike again! (The love interests of the main characters get killed off.)

I also didn't trust Stark in his insistence on getting all the info from Henry. This show has been dabbling in some really dark territory this season, so I was preparing myself for Stark to kill Henry (or cryogenically put him on ice?) once he got hold of the device.

Like the Callie developments, there's still time for this to happen before the season finale.....

It was a great show, as usual. I wish the whole 'Carter is becoming invisible thing' was dealt with in a better way. His arm was clear as day in that scene with the rats and then suddenly it went invisible? At least make sure not to show the arm the whole scene leading up to the reveal (if you can call it that). Just a minor thing, but it's SciFi, the show can't be 100% perfect.

The show has definitely turned into one of my favorites over the course of this season.

And... why havent we seen Taggert since the Geese and meteor episode?

I enjoyed this episode. I definitely agree on how the solution was pretty weak, but other than that, it was cool. I think the new love interest for Jack is going to be interesting. I foresee Allyson possibly dealing with some feelings of jealousy (as seen by her slight reaction to Callie mentioning Jack wanting out of their date) and I think Allyson felt truly bad about not remembering Jack's 1 year anniversary. Which made me feel bad for Jack as no one did remember except for Callie. Things will be interesting with this new relationship, and I can't wait to see where it goes. I love this show.
