If you can cook Rachael Ray is looking for you

by Richard Keller, posted Sep 13th 2007 9:01AM

Rachel Ray is looking for the next great cookAre you a closet foodie? Can you whip up a five-course meal with only seven ingredients? If your doctor takes a blood sample does he (or she) find equal parts of blood and extra-virgin olive oil? Do you say 'Yum-O' a lot? If you fit into one or all of the categories mentioned above then future ruler of the world Rachael Ray is looking for you.

Ray, host of her own talk show as well as 30 Minute Meals, $40 a Day, Rachael's Tasty Travels, and five or six other shows I'm probably forgetting to mention, is starting a nationwide search to find a culinary savant who cooks and bakes for their family and church and not for the customers at their five-star restaurant. Rachael and the producers of her talk show will narrow the choices down to five promising cooks, who will be whisked away for two intense weeks of competitions and challenges to see who is really the best.

The winner of the contest will be named in late November. He or she will then co-host the Rachael Ray show for a day and receive professional training at the U.S. Culinary Institute. In addition, one of the winner's original recipes will be printed in Rachael's magazine Every Day with Rachael Ray. Finally, the winner will have an opportunity to be a member of Ray's government when she finally takes over the world.

Whats the deal with these hateful people that take the time to Write that they don't like Rachel ?
As if their opinion matters to those of us that do like her.
Why do they even bother?

Obviously, I can't help but to think that simply changing the channel on their TV has never occurred to them Rather than being agitated.

Guess what people?
We don't care what your Hateful ,self important opinions are.

Clearly, you were never taught..." If you can't say something NICE, Say nothing at all"

Rachael Ray is a phony. Saw her in person and she is rude and condescending. I also agree that her appearance is nasty, that greasy hair hanging all over the food. Ugh!!

Rachel is "real"! I was a little concerned that $40/day and 30 minute meals might not translate into 60 minutes of Rach, but I wouldn't miss it. I am retired and handicapped and I love to cook for my family and friends. It is difficult to do from a stool and a scooter but I try. Rach keeps me going with great ideas and lots of laughs. I love you Rach!

Um justme, when did a article about Rachael Ray turn into an Oprah bashing moment? Oprah Winfrey is an African-American woman who is acting like Oprah, and not "white". What is acting white, by the way? So speaking so called Standard American English is only reserved for Caucasians now? Any African-American person who, according to you, is now "acting white" when they aren't using slang or more relaxed language(I guess what you would consider "acting black"). I guess accrding to you, I'm in the Oreo camp with Oprah, but I am, and will always be, an African-American woman with a terrific vocabulary who when around folks I feel I can be(whatever color they are)whomever I wish. You sound exactly like the African-American kids who accused me of not being "black enough" when growing up in the 'hood because I knew big words and had(and still have)excellent spelling skills, and the Caucasians who looked shocked when I walked through a door for a job interview after speaking to me on the phone.

Like I said in another post, I can only take RR and her fellow "tv chefs" only so much. I agree with the poster that said that it's impossible for them to love every dish they cooked(and trust me, there were probably 10-15 takes on most shows to get the cooking shots and reaction shots perfect). They ALL get on my nerves from a professional(not personal)standpoint because the majority aren't trained to bake(they are professional chefs, not trained pastry chefs, a HUGE difference), don't use or have the proper skills and tools to bake when they attempt to follow the recipe, often give wrong information and pass on bad habits that audiences think is the correct way to bake and it really isn't. Please don't get me started about their lazy pronounciation of caramel! I take my own advice and turn them off when they drive me crazy when they allegedly claim to be experts in baking, take the recipe that the behind the scenes REAL pastry chefs and kitchen testers(like me) developed and move on with my life.

Very impressed with this 'grass roots' approach to honor a deserving individual.

Hi Rachel:
I just Love cooking for people. I am a 45 year old 5' Italian Mom and Grandmother(aka Mammy)and I would like to be considered for this contest. I am contanstly being asked to make certain foods all the time and I have never worked professionally as a cook. I am of Italian desent and My families teachings were passed onto me because I was the only female interested in cooking and baking. I am contanstly feeding people in my home and at work. When they visit and can whip up the fastest tasteful recipe's with anything in my home. Thats probably from my South Philadelphia Italian upbringing. I have 2 married boys and they are now doing what they have seen their mom due over the years and cook for their wives. I just recently said to my husband that some people cannot afford all the meals that they show on these programs, they should have simple cooking but yet tastefully enough to eat from anything in your home already. Hope to see you soon.
