Big Brother 8: Final HOH Comp - Final Eviction
(S08E31) Possibly the most controversial season of Big Brother is winding down, going out as controversial as it came in this year. We've had a rollercoaster ride with the houseguests this season. And, as tonight's three-part competition for Head of House was fought out by the remaining three houseguests -- Evel Dick, Daniele, and Zach -- the controversy just kept coming at us.
We last left them in the backyard, standing on carrot-stumps, jumping a bunny. Of course, there has been a lot of talk about the show jumping the shark this season, but that's a whole 'nuther story.
This had to be one of the most brutal competitions I've ever seen on a reality television show. BB kept blasting them with chilly water, at times running it constantly for long periods of time. At one point they were shot with mud guns. Daniele smiled as Evel Dick ranted at Zach, but every time the water nailed her, she would almost shiver herself off her carrrot-stump.
The rabbit, a rather crazed-looking Killer Rabbit, was on a greyhound dog training type doohickey. (Yes, that is the technical term. I looked it up.) Each time it came around to a houseguest, they had to jump it while holding onto their suspended key.
So ... you have more than nasty weather elements, you're holding one arm straight up, and you're jumping a bunny. Throw in Dick's tirade at Zach and Zach's non-response followed by some sort of military war cry -- it just gets way bizarre. Make it last for almost eight hours, then it's brutal.
The Killer Rabbit decided he wanted no part of it and conked out after Daniele tripped on him. The first controversy of the comp -- why did the rabbit slow down when it approached her? Not that it really matters, because she would have gone out soon anyway. She had been at it almost three hours. Daniele ran off crying, only to come back to support her father by cheering him on and pep-talking him.
Evel Dick and Zach no longer had to hop over the bunny, but had to move around as much as they could to keep from going totally numb. Zach kept plodding on in place like a determined soldier as Dick weakened. I could tell that if not for Daniele, he would have given up much earlier than he did.
She finally said she loves him, most likely for the first time in years. She told him he had to stop. He hesitated, then stepped down. Zach wins part one, but probably at a health cost to them all. As losers of the first comp, Daniele and Dick will go against each other in the second part. The winner of that part will face Zach in the third.
But, to see Dick up there and how long he hung in despite the pain and cold, it was almost touching. Even Zach told him he was incredible. That said, I don't think the show should ever go this far in a competition again. It reminded me of the Stephen King novel The Long Walk in which only one walker would live to win.
Head of House Competition - Part Two - Chain of Command
This competition pitted Daniele and Dick against each other in a much more normal competition, as normal as a BB comp can be, that is. It was a timed event with the fastest finish the winner. There were two huge water tanks and a bridge between them. One at a time, they would have to dive down, retrieve clear puzzle pieces with a squiggly red line on them, then go to the other tank where pictures of the houseguests were suspended. Once there, they had to put the puzzle together so that the red line connected the houseguest faces in the order of HOH comps they won.
Daniele was first up and seemed to be doing okay, a bit confused at times. But then Dick started in on it. Both of the tries were edited to fit in the show, however it was clear that Dick had a plan for solving the puzzle. He forgot his pain and made quick work of it.They didn't know how each other did until the numbers came in. Daniele took over 24 minutes, Dick just about half of her time. He said he wasn't going to throw it, and he didn't. He's slated to battle Zach for the final HOH round. Daniele was upset with herself because she did poorly, but Dick just kept reminding her that no matter what happens, they're winners.
So, it's onto the third part ... but, first ...
We get another look-see at the sequester house. Aw, it's true love between Eric and Jessica according to Dustin. We'll see how long that lasts, but they did look smitten. Jameka arrives and the whole bunch cheer on the DVD of Zach's "no one has had the balls, I am the muscle" nominations speech. I found it interesting that Dustin acted like Jen wasn't there. "Eric and Jessica are lovebirds. We won't see them much, but Jameka, Amber, and I will have fun." Huh. What about Jen?

This last part was similar to previous seasons. Big Brother had interviewed the jury members and would read the beginning of six statements. For each statement, Julie would give Dick and Zach two possible answers. They'd have to answer A or B. (Yes, duh, I know I put in that picture to remind me!)
Here's how it all unfolded before our very eyes:
1. Amber said: The moment which irritated me the most was (A) when Jen cried about her picture or (B) being handcuffed to Kail.
Dick: A Zach: B
Correct answer A, Dick picks up a point.
2. Jen said the strongest competitor in the house was (A) Daniele or (B) myself
Dick and Zach both answered A.
Of course, it's Jen here, guys. She said B, both wrong.
3. Jameka said the fatal error she made in the house was (A) saving Jen with the veto or (B) not looking out for herself earlier.
Both answered B.
Both pick up a point. Score is Dick 2, Zach 1.
4. Dustin said the most shocking moment in the house was when (A) I was evicted or (B) Amber went off on Eric.
Both answered A, both wrong. Score remains the same.
5. Eric said the funniest moment in the house this summer was when (A) Jameka told Dick his momma was a bitch or (B) when Jen said, "I will now perform eating."
Both chose A, the correct response. Score is Dick 3, Zach 2.
6. Jessica said the person whose gameplay I respected the most was (A) my own or (B) Eric's.
Both answered Eric, both wrong. (But what was Jessica's strategy again? Oh, hang onto Eric!)
Zach was a true gentleman and, while he was never my favorite for a win this season, none were. But Zach had the manners to congratulate them and knew his doom would be after the commercial.
Julie and the rest of the world knew that Dick would take Daniele to final two with him, but still had to go through the pleading to stay bit. Daniele looked like she just wanted to say, "Because I'm your daughter!" I just hope she realizes how poorly she treats him. He's no role model dad, but he's the only one she's got. He definitely thinks the world of her. Zach handled his speech nicely, calling them the best of the best.
Dick, still on his adrenalin rush from the win, quickly said he was taking Daniele with him and apologized to Zach.
More jumping, more dancing, more bleeping (must be on a time delay).
In Zach's talk with Julie, I noticed he was very careful not to burn any bridges. He had said something to Dick about backing his invention and I believe he'll give that the old college try. He also said that while he didn't like Dick's behavior, it didn't bother him. It reminded him of a drill sergeant. That's pretty much my own thoughts about the way Dick behaved.
Zach said he was never really aligned with the Donatos. His original alliance failed and he found himself alone, so he worked with whomever he could. He had thought he would make relationships and interact with others in the house, but it never really came about.
No kidding, Zach! But I do think he made some friends at the sequester house with his "I'm the muscle" speech.
We only have two episodes left of the show. On Sunday, Dick and Daniele will share their thoughts on the "most volatile season" of the show. Julie Chen had also mentioned there would be clips from throughout the season on the last show.
The finale is Tuesday night. and we'll see not only how the jury votes, but the first five evicted houseguests, and Eric will reveal this America's Player role.
We have one more task for Eric to complete. Who do we want Eric to vote for as the winner of Big Brother 8?
| Daniele | |

| Dick |
