Celebrate your Sweet 16 on reality TV!

Sixteen CandlesI'll admit it, I'm a fan of reality TV. However, there is a limit to what I'll watch. Lately, it seems that the networks are desperately creating new reality series. Maybe it's because they fear a writers' strike or maybe they just think we will actually watch?

Earlier today an unnamed major television network sent out a casting call for a reality series that will follow the planning of a Sweet 16 party!

The casting call tells reality TV wannabes that "it's your party and you can cry if you want to!" The unnamed show is looking for a mother and her soon-to-be 16-year-old daughter. The teenager must celebrate her 16th birthday at the end of September or in October, time when the show wants to tape episodes.

Unsurprisingly, they are looking for a mother who is overbearing, set in her ways, and knows exactly how her daughter's birthday party should be like. (Almost sounds like a casting call for Wife Swap!) Of course, we would never watch if the mother was sweet and sensible, right? There are no details as what the daughter should be like but the show is looking for strong personalities.

They warn potential applicants that they should be real and that this is an unscripted show. Somehow, I expect that there will be some sort of script, especially if mother and daughter see too much eye-to-eye! After all, the network will pay for the entire party so one can expect they'll try to get good footage (meaning tantrums, screaming, and problems while planning the event).

In case someone reading this is interested in applying, mother and daughter need to send an email titled "Sweet 16 Party" which will list their names, email addresses, contact numbers, the date of the party and its scenario/theme, and a picture of the two of them to realityshowcasting@gmail.com.

Are networks pushing the envelope too far? Are you getting fed up of all those reality TV series? Will you watch? I for one am not interested in a Sweet 16 reality series. I'm more of the Survivor, The Amazing Race, and Big Brother type.

If it's anything like My Super Sweet 16 on MTV, it's nothing to look forward too. MTV in Australia show marathons of that show all of the time on weekends(after showing episodes almost every night as well)

My ex-girlfriend watched MTV's Sweet 16 so I saw a few episodes. I wanted to reach into the screen and tell the girl to shut up. Most annoying program ever the birthday girl is always a stuck up bitch (sorry but no other word will decribe them right) who brags to her friends about her party and how rich she is, then they have the party which costs more than 4 years at an Ivy Leauge, something goes wrong blah blah blah and she whines, gets 20 Lincoln Navagators and feels better. If its like that show then prepare to be annoyed.

I'm tired of the whiny, crying, complaining reality shows. I'm REALLY tired of shows like Survivor and Big Brother that people are constantly surprised that somebody lied to them in order to win. Really?

The only reality show I religiously watch is Amazing Race, the infighting is more real, the frustrations are real, and it is (more in the earlier ones) a good old fashion competition. And I'm probably in the minority of people that really miss Anderson Cooper and "The Mole". (Not the stupid celebrity one.)

MU, you're right, this does sound like 'My Super Sweet 16', only for the middle-class. The thing is after seeing how horrendous the kids are in triple-S, I'd rather the show feature a family planning the girl's S16 w/o the drama - Honestly, it'd be refreshing. Else this show is just a low-rent knock-off of SS16. Hmm, Remember, the good 'ol days of 'Trading Spaces'? Families work together to renovate a friend's home? No cussin', No fightin'? Ah, good times . . .

If there is something like this on MTV, this new reality show is not the same one. It wouldn't surprise me that there is already something like this since networks are very good at copying (and slightly changing) ideas of other networks (just see the amount of wife swapping shows, or nannies, dancing, etc.).

I have no idea what this show might be. None.

Isn't this show already on MTV? It's called Super Sweet 16 or something.
