Celebrate your Sweet 16 on reality TV!
I'll admit it, I'm a fan of reality TV. However, there is a limit to what I'll watch. Lately, it seems that the networks are desperately creating new reality series. Maybe it's because they fear a writers' strike or maybe they just think we will actually watch?Earlier today an unnamed major television network sent out a casting call for a reality series that will follow the planning of a Sweet 16 party!
The casting call tells reality TV wannabes that "it's your party and you can cry if you want to!" The unnamed show is looking for a mother and her soon-to-be 16-year-old daughter. The teenager must celebrate her 16th birthday at the end of September or in October, time when the show wants to tape episodes.
Unsurprisingly, they are looking for a mother who is overbearing, set in her ways, and knows exactly how her daughter's birthday party should be like. (Almost sounds like a casting call for Wife Swap!) Of course, we would never watch if the mother was sweet and sensible, right? There are no details as what the daughter should be like but the show is looking for strong personalities.
They warn potential applicants that they should be real and that this is an unscripted show. Somehow, I expect that there will be some sort of script, especially if mother and daughter see too much eye-to-eye! After all, the network will pay for the entire party so one can expect they'll try to get good footage (meaning tantrums, screaming, and problems while planning the event).
In case someone reading this is interested in applying, mother and daughter need to send an email titled "Sweet 16 Party" which will list their names, email addresses, contact numbers, the date of the party and its scenario/theme, and a picture of the two of them to realityshowcasting@gmail.com.
Are networks pushing the envelope too far? Are you getting fed up of all those reality TV series? Will you watch? I for one am not interested in a Sweet 16 reality series. I'm more of the Survivor, The Amazing Race, and Big Brother type.
