Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Anonymous Donor

Curb Your Enthusiasm S06E02

(S06E02) "Whatchu talkin' 'bout L.D.?" - Loretta

I tell you what. For someone that we know to be just about the most offensive and insulting person on TV, Larry David has quite the rapport with the Los Angeles black community. From Krazee-Eyez Killa to Leon, black people love Larry David. Even when he's dressed in a bed sheet, looking partially like a Klan member, black people love Larry David. My point? I don't have one... just an observation.

Another observation? There's something about Larry and bedsheets. First he was cutting holes in them in "The Survivor" and now... well, he's still cutting holes them and wearing them like I mentioned earlier. It only seems appropriate that this episode saw the return of Anna (Gina Gershon) and it's pretty clear that she still has a thing for Larry. I think it's hilarious that he still uses her as his dry-cleaner after what transpired last time.

Which brings us to the unwritten law of dry-cleaning. Apparently everyone lives by it. Even Barbara Boxer. I'm with Larry though. Even if it fit, why would I want to wear someone else's clothes? Especially when you've got people like Jeff running around and masturbating in people's houses. Plus, let's be honest -- not all dry cleaners get your clothes that clean. Sounds to me like L.D. is on to something here.

Anyway. Moving on. Despite the fact that this episode had just as many predictable moments as last week's premiere, I liked it a lot better. Sure, we knew Larry was going to get chased by the guy who Leon shook down. However, the way it tied into Larry's desire to be "anonymous" was perfect. I wonder though... even if Larry's name had still been on the wall at the NRDC, would the guard have let him in? I don't think so.

The rest of the episode had some classic moments too. I love Vivica A. Fox in her role as Loretta. Every time we see her, it's like she's channeling Whitney Houston in an episode of Being Bobby Brown. We got more Susie too. Any episode where you get to hear her scream the phrase "revenge masturbatory payback" is a good one in my book.

I think I'd really like to see this "we're just bein' girlfriends" relationship between Cheryl and Ted Danson developed more. Maybe I'm wrong, but that one scene with Ted and his wife Mary seemed kind of cold. Are they OK? What if Ted really was making a play for Larry's wife? First Chet's shirt, then the anonymous wing, and now his wife? Larry's reaction would be priceless. And who knows... maybe Larry's real life marriage ending may have provided some inspiration.
Seeing Anna again got me thinking. Which Curb alum would like to see make a return?

Is the David's new home the same home they were renting out while their other home, which was burnt down, was being renovated? If so, why do black people, Wanda and Loretta, think of it as a hotel? Also, the ending was a hilarious admission of the ejaculatory revenge "Larry David is Anonymous!".

Maybe I missed something, but were we provided with any hints as to who in fact spilled his seed on the teddy bear? (Surely not Larry??) This ep was sorta follow-up to "The Doll" ...

i think these episodes were written and filmed WAAAAY before the divorce ... that being said if anything happens it would have to be season 7 ... but i could be wrong.

I agree with the post by Lloyd Singer, that last night's episode was dark as well as funny, and I agree with Jonathan Toomey that there could be a real-life parallel in CYE. With Cheryl and Ted Danson patting each other all the time and forging a separate relationship from their spouses, I instantly thought of Larry and Laurie David's real-life couples relationship with Bart Thorpe and his wife. Now Laurie is having an affair with Bart and divorcing Larry (and Bart is divorcing his wife too), and Laurie and Bart are supposedly cuddling together in the Martha's Vineyard home that Larry and Laurie own. I think we're seeing, through Larry's comic kaleidescope, the breakdown of the David's marriage, with the Dansons subsituting for the Thorpes. (Perhaps it was obvious to Larry that Laurie was getting carried away with Bart, the way it's obvious to Larry that Cheryl is getting too friendly with Danson on the show.) I have been wondering what Larry's thoughts are on the Laurie/Bart situation, so I hope CYE continues with the Ted/Cheryl relationship. It would be great if Larry could get a few laughs out of his divorce.

I saw the episode the same way, Lloyd. I said the same thing, about how cold Larry and Cheryl were towards each other when I was watching it last night. I do think that the divorce Larry is going through in real life is definitely going to be present in the upcoming episodes.
As for Wanda Sykes and Shelly Berman, I read that Wanda will not be appearing in this season of Curb, and Berman will only be in one. I can do without seeing Cheryls imposing parents again.
I would love to see Krazee Eyes along with Leon and Larry.
I still crack up every time I see Krazee Eyes episode. When he gives Larry the house tour, and shows him the 'floor sh*t', and says how he wants to play Scarface 24/7 Yo delicious ..clean this sh*t up! LOL!

Cheri Oteri as the wacko nanny and Shelley Berman as Larry's Dad. And hopefully we'll see Wanda now that Larry has the Blacks living with him....

Robert Corddry (Rick Leftowitz) from The Seder

"In the throes of a moral quandary."

One of very few that wanted to help and be Larry's friend. He just happened to be a sex offender.

Wasn't the first scene Larry moving into this house after the last one burned down? How could Jeff have visited this same guest bedroom last Jewish holiday when he was drunk on Manochevitz? Unless they moved the entire room untouched to the new home.

I just stumbled onto your site, so I assume in general you keep things pretty light, but I thought last night's episode of Curb was really dark and I'm surprised you didn't elaborate more. I guess it must be reflecting what Larry David has gone through in his personal life. I never saw Larry and his wife so cold with each other. And he totally captured the feel that she could be having an affair... at least emotionally she sure is. And just the whole breakdown of friendships. I don't know, it was way more dark than the past and I guess it will be interesting to see where it goes. As usual, it was done really well and the acting was perfect. Just curious to hear if others took it as serious as me... even though parts were hysterically funny.
