Barry Manilow writes the songs but won't sing them on The View

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 18th 2007 8:02AM

Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barry ManilowI'm not at all amazed that another week brings another controversy to The View, but I am a little surprised at who is involved this time.

Singer Barry Manilow has refused to appear on the show today because he didn't want to be interviewed by Elizabeth Hasselbeck. At first I thought this was one of those "taken out of context" things, but Manilow himself told TMZ.com: "I strongly disagree with her views. I think she's dangerous and offensive. I will not be on the same stage as her." He explains more on his site.

It's a little odd because he actually was on the same stage with her more than once the past few years. Maybe he sided with Rosie in the Daytime Talk Show Wars (TM). I'm sure the gals on the show will be talking about this today and tomorrow. And all you readers can begin leaving your many comments below right about....now.

I agree with Barry!!! It has nothing to do with Rosie, although they are matches for having the biggest mouths that I have ever wittnessed. They are obcessed with THEIR need for attention!

Barbara PLEASE WAKE UP & get rid of the mouthy one namely Elizabeth. She has to talk more than anyone else .....does that tell you anything

Thanks

Can you imagine the fit people would have thrown if some guest in the past refused to go on the View because Rosie was a lesbian??? That would have been made into a huge deal.....get over it Barry....we don't always have the same views!!!!!

I use to love to listen to Manilow in the 70's but come on people. the true story was barry told the shows producer He did not want to be on with Elizabeth so the producer said (then You wont be on the show) It was never Manilow's choice. and I say good for the producer. the only reason Hasselbeck seems so far right is that New York is soooo ! far left its almost communist.

Liberals and Right Wingers Alike.....Here is what makes me soooo mad! First, I love Barry Manilow and am deeply saddened that he made this a "political issue". He has that right but it again shows how intolerant people are of differing opinions. No matter what your opinions are that doesn't mean you have to HATE the person because of them. I may disagree morally or socially or whatever with another person but why does that mean we have to be hateful about it all. I watch the View and I honestly don't think Hasselback would diss Manilow the way he did her. Can't people respectifully disagree?

Barry has every right to do and ask whatever he wants. The view has the same rights too.Elisabeth is a total idiot! I'm entitle to my opinion too.

its funny to see people diss Barry... it's always been 'uncool' to be a fan of his, he's the butt of many jokes... but let's face it, he's an incredible showman, why else would his Vegas show be continued through yet another full year? I saw it in Boston, it was amazing.

The View does segments where 1 or 2 people do the interview, so his request was not unreasonable. Rosie is on his new CD, I think he was just looking to avoid the awkwardness of that situation.

I haven't bought the cd yet, I will on payday, it will be the special edition. I'll also buy his 5 dvd set when it comes out in November. The man is amazing and is the first to make fun of himself, he's not a jerk at all.

I wouldn't get on the same stage as Elisabitch, either. Call me a filthy liberal, I'm proud to be one.

Barry is the man.

One conservative versus four libs on the View. Sounds like fair and balanced. But it only takes one Conservative to out-argue four libs.
Barry needs to venture away from the two coasts and meet some real people.

Barry Manilow's refusal to go on a show AFTER he had already agreed to be on it was so childish, but I'm sure he is enjoying the publicity. How intolerant and discriminating it is to not even be able to be on the same stage as someone who doesn't share his political views. I agree with some of the Republican ideas, and some of the Democratic ideas. I actually have always been a fan, BUT, I wish that I could let him know (so he could be relieved) that I will never buy any more of his CD's, because I cannot guarantee that I'm thinking as a Democrat that day. I think all Republicans should refrain from buying his music or going to his concerts-I'm sure a man of such high "standards" would not want any money from people he hates so much.

I used to be a fan Of Barrys until now. It shows how narrow minded, tempermental, egotistical and very childish he is. He must be a democrat that feels she should agree with everything he believes. The other 4 are all democrats so that says it all. Barry shame on you I never thought you were that kind of person. No more of your CDs for me!
