Fox offers free TV episodes via iTunes

iTunesApparently it's free internet TV week. First NBC announced it would be launching a free video download service. Then ABC announced it would stream free episodes through AOL.

And now Fox is offering free downloads of series/season premieres of 7 shows. You'll be able to download the episodes from Apple's iTunes store. The episodes are commercial free, and the goal is to build buzz for the Fox programs.

But while NBC recently began offering free downloads of four TV episodes from Amazon Unbox, there's one major difference between the FOX and NBC moves: NBC gave you the ability to download shows several weeks before their premiere dates. That's how you build buzz. Fox, on the other hand is including free downloads of some shows that haven't premiered yet, and some shows that have.

For example, the LA Times reports you can download this season's first episodes of American Dad, Bones, K-Ville, and Prison Break. Out of those four, 2 shows have already been broadcast. Way to build buzz.

That's what I say.

One of the stories a few weeks back was that analysts expected Fox to pull out of iTunes after NBC/Universal had and at the time my thought was "That's Crazy, this is a boon for Fox".

Clearly, Fox had the same idea because they're clearly using their now lead position on iTunes to their advantage.

I really think NBC/Universal is going to end up with their tail between their legs before this is all over.
