FOX turns Borat into a cop

by Paul Goebel, posted Sep 21st 2007 9:28AM

BoratThe FOX network has announced plans for a brand new cop show about a police officer from Albania who is transplanted to the US.

The one hour project, currently tittled Raffik, will be a fish-out-of-water story focusing on the officer's reactions to the wonders of America.

The only details of the project that have been revealed are that Anthony Horowitz is the creator. Horowitz previously created Foyle's War and also worked on Poirot both for ITV.

If the show ends up being a comedy, the comparisons to Borat will be hard to avoid. Hopefully, the main character will be smarter than Borat and a little more familiar with social customs.

I, for one, am unfamiliar with the Albanian judicial system but the premise seems chock full of wackiness. I can just see the main character arresting a rapist or murderer and forgetting to read him his rights causing the criminal to go free. Hilarious! What about a scene where the Albanian officer continuously tries to make "sexy time" with his new female partner.

I'm sure the show will be better than the examples I've given, but will it be much better?

Huh well i will tell you everything that this movie will be about. as an albanian myself. first of all the cop will not arrest a man for beating his wife he will most likely help the man. another things is he will probably arrest a woman for talking to a man who isnt her husband. he will also take money from people in order not to arrest them . umm basically very corrupt and very funny . sadly he will make it seem like we are very dumb and thats kinda sad because he wont be very safe. when he made borat he was going to make it about albanians but the albanian mafia warned him and he changed his mind soo now that he is doing it again im not sure how that will go. i myself dont agreee since its only fun but i mean albanians tend to be a little close minded. but in my opinion.
BOrat namber oneeeeee veriii niceeeeeeeeee

Wasn't Cohen's first version of the Borat character (pre-"Da Ali G Show") from Albania? He looked the same and acted the same, but had a different name (I can't think of it right now and don't feel like researching it :P).

Seems totally like a rip-off to me, but then again, what isn't these days.

I am from Albania, and I can't wait to see "how funny this show will be to me".

Fighting with stereotypes is always a good challenge, but hey lets have some more, for the audiences to have a blast. Moreover, I will enjoy whatever stupid thing, the "unexperienced, uncivilized and unused to social rules" "Raffic" will do so that the civilized American citizen will enjoy.

Why don't you make a show about you ghettos across the country and about the people you fail to protect in cases of natural disasters, so that the rest of the world can have a laugh too?

Did you know that Borat, used to be an Albanian in the first series? Do you know why he changed his origins? I am afraid you are dealing with people who are too proud of their origins, at least for your taste.

Albanian? You mean all white with pink eyes?

That's right kids, I have seen many episodes of The Simpsons.

Is this going to be like those stupid animated shorts Fox had last year with the cab driver. Those were awful.

I might be in the minority, but I did not like Borat. It's was not about being offensive (nothing really bothers me), I just did not find it funny. This does not sound much better, and since it will be on Fox, it will get canned after two episodes :)

What is it about Albanians? I remember this movie with Keanu Reeves, Barbara Hershey, and Peter Falk, "Tune In Tomorrow", in which Falk's character made the Albanians the brunt of his abuse in his radio drama scripts.

I'm hoping if there's comedy, it's more of a 'Columbo'/'Monk' style, but still remain a dramatic cop show. Because otherwise, the premise might wear thin fast.

It sounds like it might be similar to 'McCloud' or 'Martial Law', with that fish out of water cop aspect.
