Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Ida Funkhouser Roadside Memorial

(S06E03) "You can't ask a mourner for fifty dollars." - Larry
I think I'm starting to agree with what a lot of people have been noticing already. This season feels a lot darker, even for Larry's twisted sense of reality. He's much more of a jerk. Much worse than I ever recall. The bad thing about it is that the people who have traditionally always been by his side (Cheryl and Jeff) are starting to seem fed up now as well. I'm fairly certain that Larry won't be as enjoyable to watch if he has no one to complain to.
Alright, so beyond that, what was good about this episode? Well... everything. Even though it's darker, it doesn't mean that it isn't funny. The entire running gag about the moist sweaty fifty dollar bill from Funkhouser's shoe was perfect. It ran throughout the episode and ultimately fueled all of Larry's other idiotic decisions since no one would take the bill from him. I was surprised that he didn't pull out some "you have to accept legal tender" rant at the flower shop though.
That forced him to steal flowers from the roadside memorial to Marty's late mother. Three bouquets to be exact. The act of stealing sort of validated the action for Larry and by the end he was angry at Marty anyway, leading to the theft of the perfume I mentioned earlier. Larry's always been an ass, but I don't ever recall him doing things that will knowingly put him in an awkward situation. That's the fun -- they're supposed to just happen. That's always been one of the appealing aspects of the humor in this show.
Elsewhere, I loved the bit with the "sample abusers." That definitely rang true for me. There's always that one person in line, as Larry mentioned, who expects banana to taste like something other than banana. I loved when Loretta found out where the flowers came from and asked Larry if they "came from a graveyard." That line got me laughing. I felt bad for Jeff though. Aside from hearing Susie complain, he really wanted his daughter to get into that private school. I'm sure it will be forgotten about by the next episode and he and Larry will move on to something else that's wildly inappropriate.
