mark burnettMark Burnett seems to be in a race to have more shows on network televsion than Jerry Bruckheimer. The legendary reality show producer continues to branch out in the world of game shows. He just inked a deal with NBC for a mid-season game show called My Dad is Better Than Your Dad. In the show, dads and kids will compete in all sorts of challenges together. NBC has ordered eight episodes.

This is game show number three for Burnett, who also created Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? for FOX and the upcoming Amne$ia, a game show where contestants will be quizzed about their own lives, for NBC.

I think that Mark Burnett needs to make smarter game shows, not reducing an adult contestant to a child on Smarter than a 5th grader. But I kind of like the My Dad is Better than Your Dad concept. It sounds more family-driven here than the more backstabbing, confrontational style of his reality shows. Getting fathers and sons/daughters together might be what TV needs instead of the mostly adult fare that crowds the major networks. This sounds like a fun, upbeat show. I think that I'll watch this Burnett produced show over all that backstabbing ilk he's most famous for. But this man has made some solid shows--he just needs to not have more than 2 of them at one time on the networks because his over-the-top style can be a little too much to some people.
