Bill O'Reilly screams at Rick Sanchez

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 26th 2007 9:22AM

Bill O'ReillyWow, talk about not knowing who to root for.

Bill O'Reilly is hotter than...well, something that gets really hot...at CNN anchor Rick Sanchez. O'Reilly made some comments on his Radio Factor show that many, including MediaMatters.org, have taken as racist. And O'Reilly is ticked off at the media in general and CNN/Sanchez in particular. He actually called Sanchez about the way CNN handled the story. Sanchez said that O'Reilly "screamed at the top of his lungs."

O'Reilly is fighting back on his show, saying that "CNN has lost all credibility with me and this network, and it's just a shame. We knew that MSNBC were a bunch of smear merchants. We didn't expect it from CNN."

You can listen to O'Reilly said here and judge for yourself. The specific quote that is getting people irked is this one:

"And I couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship."

I have no idea if O'Reilly had any intent other than just reporting what he saw, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. If you listen to the entire clip, it does seem like he's being really condescending, clueless, and very, very white.

O'Reily is such a blowhard. He was so inscensed and outraged when accused of sexual harrassment, he said he would fight it to the end, that he was completely innocent. Then we didn't hear another word from him. Obviously he had to concede for whatever reason, where went the I'm above suspicion attitude until the evidence was presented. His steriotypical position on the restaurant was also pompous and of course he doesn't see it. He is coming from a narrow, priveledged, white, male, dominate position. I quit watching his "no spin" a while ago, in my opinion he was so polite with people of position and or power and so rude and disrespectful to anyone else. He would interrupt and cut them off so their point was never quite clear.

What crap. People really do need to quit blaming racism for every little bitty thing said they don't like.

@ pgooddeals2007: you know if you are really a black man who thinks that blacks have to a hundred times better than whites to get a job, you might throw in a full stop or a comma here and there so your comment gets readable. If you read your own comments out loud over before hitting the "Add Your Comments" button and run out of air, most likely you should split up your sentence a couple of times.

Hey Dawn@55

Did you just make a racist remark about people in the south that use truck stops. You should stop talking because you sound moronic

@Dawn:
In response to your 2nd paragraph, sadly, yes, there are people who still believe that. As someone of Mexican descent, I can attest to encountering such opinions from time to time, even though I'm thoroughly experienced in IT, studying Electrical Engineering, and born in the US and A ;) (usually disclaimed after the fact with an "Oh, well we didn't mean you specifically"). So perhaps it doesn't hurt to have someone countering those arguments on each side of the spectrum, eh?

Though, as I stated at the beginning of my response, I normally find O'Reilly obnoxious and annoying, in particular the Christmas diatribe you brought up. Dear Lord has the "War on Christmas" gotten annoying. While I normally don't pay attention to either, he seemed much more calm on the radio clip than he does on his TV show... Maybe that's why I'm on this side of the argument? *shrugs*

You gotta love Bill, black or white. If he was a racist would he be giving a forum for black leaders, giving them air time and the such. GO BILL

OK, so Bill-O's defenders claim his moronic remarks are taken out of context.

Why did he make them at all? Are his listeners and fan base such a bunch of out of touch jackasses that they have to be told that blacks live and eat like whites instead of a pack of wolves? Holy Toledo! Breaking news!

Especially because all whites behave well in all restaurants. I'll bet every truck stop in the South is a model of white decorum at all times.

Also, his fans squawk that we are simply tooooooo sensitive and PC. OK, fine. I guess that means that Bill-O's annual paranoid diatribe on the conspiracy to end saying "Merry Christmas" can be attributed to a stupid middleaged blowhard's perception of something blown waaaay out of proportion?

Bill's fans sound as intelligent as he does. How sad.
