Tuesday ratings: House powers FOX to a win

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 26th 2007 4:19PM

Hugh LaurieEverybody loves that cranky doctor over on FOX!

The season opener of House helped FOX win the first big Tuesday ratings battle of the year. The combo of House and the season opener of Bones at 8 made FOX the number one network for the night.

In second place was The CW. Oh, just kidding! Actually, ABC was second, with another installment of Dancing with the Stars (how many times is this show on a week anyway?) and Boston Legal. NBC was third, with two hours of The Biggest Loser and Law and Order: SVU. CBS was fourth, with NCIS, The Unit, and Cane. And then comes The CW, with Beauty and the Geek and Reaper.

Here are all the numbers and other nitty gritty so you can see who won each time slot and how it compares to last season.

possibly if "house" could give his opinion of universal health care for everyone. and especially for children that shit-for-brains, as bill mahar called him vetoed. it wouldn't hurt if house could pick sides. as an old friend of mine, pete seeger once said in a song, which side are you on, boys, which side are3 you on.... show us, the viewers you have a pair of them and take a fucking stand, o.k.? at this point in our history, this is no time to ignore the war going on between the fascist republicans and 97% of the american people. edward r. murrow had the balls to come out against mccarthy, can't you guys come out against the way medicine is given to the rich and nobody else? t.v. shows aren't just to entertain. if you stand apart from realityh, then you come across as gutless. in our couhntry's history, this is no time for that.

Actually you can reconstruct a face from the scull of a human...and they do have technology now that displays things in the third dimension (Tokyo University, Japan: they showed a table that could display topical three dimension maps). Now that is not to say that we are at the level where it would look that good, but technically it is possible to display artists' renditions of a facial reconstruct of a persons face based soly on their scull.

You have to remember that you are watching TV...of course they make modern technology look sexier and fancier than that in real life...but their views and scientific basis for their arguments and directions within a specific plot are feasible.

I cant stand how people these days expect fictional TV shows to be more like reality TV. If TV shows didnt add a little flair to their productions it would be like watching a documentary or real life. Dont we leave our "real lives" to sit in front of the stupid box to enjoy ourselves and escape the day to day. Looking for TV shows to follow the laws of the real would would be like expecting cartoons and anime to follow the same rules. Enjoy TV and stop taking things so seriously, sit back, relax, and ENJOY!!!

PS - this isnt a direct attack on #8, bash

Boston Legal will be fine, I think next season will be it's last. The numbers dropped because House was on at the same time as it. That was a dumb move on ABC's part. And Boston Legal's numbers are about 9-10 million a week and the show is in the top 50 every year. It beat Jericho, which... oh yeah... :). It was ABC's number 7 show through. :)

And Bones always had a few stupid things in it that just didn't find believable at all, but I enjoy the show and just forget them. The 3D face model comes to mind.

Bash, if you're referring to forensic facial reconstruction from a skull, it's a long-established and scientific means of recreating a face. It's not 100% accurate, but the results are often startingly close to the real face.

#10, since when has "Bones" been sci-fi in any way?

"Reaper" was amazing. Hopefully more people will tune in to that excellent show despite the fact that it's on the CW.

Too bad "The Unit" was down from last season, although I was not able to watch the season premiere myself (live or recording). Hopefully I can see it online.

"Cane" was down from the premiere of "Smith," apparently, but I think a ton of people watched the pilot of "Smith" and then ditched it before the second episode. I know I did.

#5, I don't think that "The Unit" is doomed to end this season; it still gets pretty decent ratings, right? Personally, I think that this will be the last season of "Boston Legal"; ratings for that show have always been all-around pretty lousy, and if you read the Futon Critic article it had a tremendous drop in ratings already this season.

#9, Mondays at 10 is only non-competitive because it is dominated by "CSI: Miami."

Bash, Bones is more Sci-fi forensics show, like The Profiler was.

Cane got a 7.5 rating, compared to Law and Order's 8.0 rating and Boston Legal (repeat)'s 6.7 rating. What this means is it ain't so good.

CBS is really looking for a good show in the 18-49 demo and they've been unable to find it thus far. Being that NCIS and The Unit average high ratings, but unfortunately attract more crowds who aren't in the 18-49 demo, I don't understand why CBS puts a new show geared towards a younger crowd in a timeslot where older people are traditionally watching.

If they were smart, they could've used the very non-competitive Monday night @ 10pm slot to launch Cane and use the Tuesday @ 10 slot for CSI: Miami. Or they would've used the power of CSI or Without a Trace to launch Cane.

Then again, if they were REALLY smart, they would've gone to pick up an awesome pilot like Bionic Woman or something like that.

CBS is going to try again with Cane--the way they've advertised the show leads me to think it's their baby. They want it to live. You might see it move around the schedule to get comfortable like they did with "Close to Home" (even though that lasted 2 seasons).

DwtS and House no longer make Tuesday competitive enough for CBS to jump in. They need to restrengthen their lineups on Wednesdays and Thursdays *ahem, bring Jericho back ASAP to replace the crappy Kid Nation* to remain competitive and the #1 network in America...

Bones as well as CSI: Miami have so blatantly false CSI gadgets that I can hardly stand it anymore. I axed Bones after 25 minutes of the Pilot because the "forensic experts" were able to regenerate a face of a female african american just from her bones, which is factually impossible. On CSI: Miami on monday they employed computer generated graphics that were taken right out of a Nokia commercial to illustrate how they accessed a "mobile phone" (while everybody knew that it was a blackberry). This was kind of an indirect ad for the product which in fact can not do what they did with it.

On shows that are supposed to display how forensics work I simply can not accept these logical flaws. I have to suspend dumb myself down into believing this uber-police actually exists, which I really can't. The only reason I watch CSI:M is because of all the eye-candy which Bones lacks. Also I couldn't stand seeing David Boreanaz in the role of the wuzz after Angel. Angel should've gotten renewed for a 6th season, the show was definitely getting better before it got the ax.

Anyway, House felt just like it always did - just great. Since I am not a doctor I can completely suspend my disbelief there - oh and I got the secret once that random guy sat there who also lost his girlfriend. Man that was such a foreign object in the picture that the conclusion had to lie there :-) Knowing "whodunit" is always fun, so I liked the episode. Also because I guessed that the intern in the ER would answer House more questions than just the one about the memo :-)

It's so good that House is back on the air, Fox really deserves to win Tuesday night with House :-)

L&O: SVU was terrific last night - though I'm not sure it got quite enough promo from NBC. My friend texted me with, "Is SVU new tonight?!?!" - I had to tell her to watch it! Cynthia Nixon was an awesome guest star (Emmy nom, anyone? Yes, I'm already thinking for next year) and Mariska and Chris were awesome, as usual. Have to say that I sorta fell in love with Mariska's hair, even though it was cut way short as opposed to last season. That girl can pull anything off - she's just gorgeous. I was a little sad that they didn't say much more about the fallout from season 8's finale...just a quick mention that Liv had been suspended, Elliot's daughter was sentenced to community service, and Cragen was reassigned (which lasted all of .2 seconds after Munch made a terrible captain... that was hilarious. I love Munch!). Speaking of all that, though - TV Squad, you let me down! I came to look for your SVU review of last night's ep, and I didn't see anything! Come on, guys, show some love!
