12 craziest moments on Letterman

by Brad Trechak, posted Oct 3rd 2007 10:39AM

Late Show with David Letterman logoThe blog The Top Socialite has posted what the author believes were the 12 craziest moments from the Letterman Show (both the NBC and CBS versions). I'm not certain exactly what criteria the author uses, but some of the segments are pretty damn funny and show Dave in his talented prime.

It's interesting to note that two of these segments made it to major motion pictures. The scene with Andy Kaufman throwing the coffee on Jerry Lawler was in Man On The Moon starring Jim Carrey and the segment with Harvey Pekar appeared in American Splendor (it appeared in the comic book too).

One segment shown is Sam Kinison doing stand-up. *Sigh* I miss him. So much of modern comedy was influenced by him.

Other segments include the Drew Barrymore flashing incident, the Borat interview and when Dave wore a suit of Alka-Seltzer. So what do you think? Did they miss any that should have been in the top 12? And wouldn't it have made more sense to be a top 10 list?

What about when O'Reilly made Dave look like the dumb liberal that he is!

Maybe not a crazy moment, but I remember when Nastassja Kinski was on, and she had this weird hairdo; everything gelled straight up. This was like 1983 or something. People were kind of giggling at her hairstyle, and she even looked at the monitor and saw it and muttered something in broken English.

John Candy was the next guest. When he came out, his hair was gelled up exactly like hers.

RIP, John C.

I was there when Howard Stern was a guest (and Melissa Etheridge performed) and Stern had this side-camera thing where he was saying how he wanted to dump a jar of his pee on Kathy Lee's head. I'm sure it was never meant to air, but it was bizarre to see them tape it.

I also thought of Richard Simmons & the fire extinguisher. How about when Madonna said F*** Y** over & over again? I expected to see those two on the list.

suit of Velcro and Rice Krispies should join the Alka Seltzer. Also miss the Late Night Monkey Cam and the show he did rotating the camera slowly through the night...

I think only two of the 12 are from the CBS years -- that's too bad.

Dave himself would probably add the Farrah Fawcett interview and the time he "fire extinguished" Richard Simmons.
